I swear, most NFL fans know as much about how to crunch salary cap numbers as the "gurus" themselves.

In theory there's a number high enough that the Jets should not be willing to pay Fitzpatrick. But imo at least for salary for 16 it has to be a pretty high number. I am guessing what argument there would be would involve later years and guarantees.

But the Jets have no realistic alternative for 16. They could try and get a top prospect in the draft by trading up. But that's a high risk move, and the Jets have too many holes to fill.

I'm not so sure about that based on some of the posts I've seen here. Still, it isn't rocket science, and I'm certainly no accountant or rocket scientist, and there's a lot of information out there, so there's no reason why we should be able to have some understanding of it.

Bradford resigned, 2 years, 36 million 26 million guaranteed. There is your yardstick for Fitz. Actually a bit pricey... Not great.

Ugh, we better not go crazy with our offer for Fitz. That Bradford deal sucks

Fuck that. I want Fitz back as badly as everyone else here but if he wants that $18 mil a year matched just forget it, we can't do that. A deal like that could screw this roster for years by forcing us to restructure contracts and give old declining players guaranteed money down the road. But then again, what's our other option?

I say we go with a 3 year offer, $13 mil a year, $30 mil guaranteed?

Still feels bloated, but Ill take it now I think. What do you guys think?

If that is the price for Fitz, it will be so long, thanks for the good year in 2015, wish him well, and welcome Kaepernick to the Jets.

By all measures then Fitz should get $20 mill per year after that nonsense deal.

Which at that point I tell him to GTFO.

There's no freaking way I'd give Fitz that kind of money! He simply isn't worth it.

They aren't attractive options, but if the trade price for Kaepernick was a 5th round pick or lower, I'd trade for Kapernick and let Geno, Petty and he battle it out. If Kaepernick was too expensive, I'd let Geno and Petty battle it out, and use the money they would have paid Fitz to either re-sign Snacks, help pay Mo, or go after Danny Trevathan or Lamar Miller and/or Osemele.

Yea, I'd rather have Petty start his career with a good roster than have Fitz back with a team that's significantly worse than last year's and a much tougher schedule. But hope he takes a discount because he knows how much being here helped him.

$12mil is my limit for Fitz, and even that hurts. The Bradford deal raised the bar. You have to figure Fitz gets at least Foles money, but it wouldn't surprise to see him get Smith/Dalton/Stafford/Tannehill type money either. Let him walk at those prices, and take the 2017 3rd round compensatory pick.

Mac needs a plan B. That can be Kaepernick or somehow move up to grab a QB in the draft if we're sold on one.

I could see it. Bradford has a much higher ceiling, and is a bit younger as well. It's not like Fitz is a tier 1 qb. Plus it just doesn't seem to me personally like Fitz is the kind of guy to hold out for every last penny he can get.

I think 12-14 a year is perfectly reasonable.

It may be reasonable (which I don't think it is), but the Jets can't afford even that much.
