He's also just not that good. Mayock's probably going to change his rankings in March after Paxton Lynch blows up his pro day or once the hype dies on Wentz, like he always does. But I hope the Jets pass on this guy. Besides the arm and running ability what does he do well on a consisent basis?
Goff is the best QB in this class by far. If he doesn't get thrown in the fire to start right away and has time to develop he will be a very good QB. If Goff goes to the Browns he's done... Actually if any QB gets drafted by the Browns they are toast... Now if the Cowboys grab him watch out for him after Romo blows up in a year or two.
Hue jackson has made Andy dalton look like a pretty damn good qb. I don't think a qb is done first they go there
I like Jackson but he didn't develop Andy Dalton, Jay Gruden did. Hue drove the bus and added a excellent run game mixed in with big plays to Green down the field. Dalton was a 4 year vet when Hue started calling plays not a rookie... When Hue was in Oakland he traded for another vet in Palmer... I just feel the Browns are in a real tough spot and throwing a Rookie QB into the fire in that division... It's a recipe for disaster.
There are only 3 QBs I would even consider drafting for the Jets - Wentz, Lynch and Vernon Adams - and Goff isn't one of them.
What makes you come to that conclusion? I'm sorry but you must not have seen very many Cal games because Goff is an excellent player. If he has time to mature and develop in a system and not start right away he will be a stud in the nfl.
I like Goffs accuracy but a Cali boy from Cal will always thrive in warm weather over cold no matter how big or small his hands are.
I saw Goff a lot. I'm not saying he's Geno Manuel Barkley Tyler Wilson bad. But he's not Marcus Winston Teddy Carr good. Petty is better than him, better arm, quicker release, as accurate, better runner, an NFL body. Goff doesn't need to sit and learn for 2 years. He needs to sit and take HGH and be in an NFL weight program for 2 years. _
I mean for someone who was so high on Bridgewater I'm shocked to hear you so concerned about his size. He weighed in a pound heavier than Bridgewater albeit a couple inches taller, with only 1/4 of an inch smaller hands. In talking purely on size it's certainly contradictory of your personal opinion to be concerned about Goff's size constraints, yet you haven't ever voiced concerned about Bridgewater's.
Weight and height go hand in hand, being 2 inches shorter matters but even still Teddy was an extremely durable and tough player. He was a great opportunistic runner and could take a pounding. I saw him get crushed multiple time at Louisville and he'd bounce right back up. He was a very athletic guy. I don't get that with Goff. Besides my love for Teddy had to do with his incredible pre snap reads and his ability to see everything going on post snap and his incredible accuracy. I've heard all the talking heads talk about Goffs accuracy but IMHO it's no where near what Teddy's was. And I've watched a fair amount of Goff because I was interested to see what he had. Good player but nobody that blew me away and I honestly believe Petty will be a better pro. _
It had nothing to do with the player comparisons, merely the size of the players you were comparing. It makes no sense to be adamant about how Goff is going to struggle in the NFL because of his size when he's basically the same size as your favorite quarterback prospect.
It's an absolute contradiction for those who like Bridgewater but don't like Goff. They are very similar prospects, but I would say Teddy has a far better football IQ. Teddy a more conservative QB right now, where-as I can see Goff being very aggressive making throws downfield. That's the only difference I really see in the 2. VERY similar in size and skill-set.
Basically is in the eye of the beholder. Being 2 inches taller and the same weight is not basically the same. And with Teddys superior talent I can look past a somewhat smallish frame. It's not ideal but it's adequate. I think Goff is a lot skinnier. But he's got a frame to put in weight. _
Stokes I hope you are right about Petty. We need a franchise QB so bad. On a personal note, I want to turn my boys from Giants to Jets and a good QB and a winning Jets team will go a long way. With that said, why are so high on Petty? I mean he didn't play during the season and all we have is his preseason games last year and what we hear from Jets beat writers etc.
I never said I was only looking at one factor but even still Teddy was not as skinny as Goff and was a much tougher player in college. If he were 2 inches taller he might be 20 lbs heavier. _
He has a perfect mix of arm frame lightening quick release accuracy smarts durability gunslinger work ethic and leadership. The only thing he didn't have in college was a pro system. He's now been in a pro system for a year, soon to be 2. Go watch a tape of his bowl game against Mich State. Incredible performance. _
