What does success have to do with stability? All I'm saying is that Fitz has provided this team steady leadership at the qb position. We haven't had that in years.
It's all about the players he has around him. The familiarity of the coaching staff. That in itself creates the stability and led to his career year. The two sides will need to come to a medium. Jets will not break the bank for Fitzpatrick.
What is the cap situation for those first 8 teams? I can understand not trading Mo to the Dolphins, the Steelers and even the Raiders, but why not the Jags or Rams?
The Raiders wouldn't have any interest in trading picks or paying Muhammad Wilkerson that much.( their Gm loves his draft picks- that team has drafted as well as anyone the last two years. Why would you trade picks, and pay Mo that much when you can just sign Oliveri Vernon in Fa. Not to mention they could just draft their guy in the draft. The Buccanears after they got taking to the wood shed in the Revis trade, are going to trade with the Jets. The Jaguars will over spend for any free agent, but I don't know if they want to give up picks. As good as Muhammad Wilkerson is their isn't going to be a big trade market for him. No team wants to give monster contract, and draft picks . That why I keep harping on the fact it's a tough call whether to tag Muhammad Wilkerson. The Jets could get burnt if they can't trade him.( 16 million on their books ) plus 10 million per year it might cost to re-sign Fitzpatrick. It doesn't leave much room to re-sign their Fa, or go out and improve their weak spots.
Snacks will command easily 6 million per year, that is the going rate for Nt/Dt. That is the starting point, and anything under that amount is fantasy talk.
Fitzpatrick will get 10 million per year from the Jets(probably two year deal) . Do you consider that amount to be breaking the bank? Again When the cap goes up , the cost to sign players goes up too. The Jets after the offense success this season , aren't going to look to change too much. ( Fitzpatrick re-signing will happen first). They will try to build off of that success , as this will be second year in the same offense system.
Jags are a young upcoming team in the AFC that almost beat us when Mo was on our team. The Rams are in the NFC but they have a lot of talent. I ain't gonna feed the bear.
We have tough decisions to make involving the cap. Letting Snacks or Mo walk to pay $10 mil pr year to a journeyman QB north of 30 is not the way to improvement.
We might not agree with that decision , but the Gm said they want to re-sign Fitzpatrick before free agency starts.( don't want to get in bidding war for Fitzpatrick) What other option do the Jet's have at Qb. NFL people say Fitzpatrick can expect a contract between 10-12 million per year.( the Jets don't pay it someone else will) It isn't the ideal situation to be in. That's why they have to keep drafting a Qb , till they find their franchise Qb.
What bidding war? Without Gailey, Fitz is not the QB he is with Gailey. Sure, give him $5-7 mil but $10-12 mil is crazy talk.
For Fitzpatrick, I do consider that breaking the bank. 10M is far too much ... 3 years 21M dollar contract. 7M a season at best. I agree, the Jets offense should completely build on the success of this previous season. Now, if the Jets make it an incentive laden contract, then I think the Jets can talk 10M ... Does the Jets FO believe Fitz can repeat what he did last season?
Every time a situation like this one arises, you have fans proclaiming the above. There were people who thought there wouldn't be a market for Keyshawn, Vilma, Abraham, Revis…etc., and those are just examples from the Jets. Full disclosure, I used to be one of those people, but I've been wrong too many times at this point join you. BTW Mo >>> Vernon
The jets are going to re-sign Fitzpatrick before free agency starts. ( won't be a bidding war) Let's see whose numbers are more realistic.( no sense arguing , as we will just wait for the numbers when he signs.
Muhammad Wilkerson makes it to free agent market without getting tagged their will be a big market for him. Now a team has to give up a high pick, and pay that salary, there aren't going to be a lot of teams interested. ( hopefully their will be one idiot GM). They will sign Malik Jackson at a fraction of M Wilkerson cost.. That why if the Jets had last year cap, and they tried to do a tag and trade. ( there is no risk as you can easily afford his salary for the one year( wait to get the best deal). Now with limited funds,( every Gm know what your intentions are) that 16 million eating a big chunk of your limited cap space.( preventing you from re-signing your own free agents, or going out and get free agents at positions your weak at.( you can't move him in a trade, your in deep doo doo.) not to mention the free agents you might want to add, are getting gobbled up in Fa.
No you made your point Fitzpatrick getting 7 million per year, and I made mine expect that number to be 10 million. Let's see what he eventually gets.
