He was everything I thought he wouldn't be. Durable, clutch, dependable... I mean, yeah, I thought he would get hurt and or lose his job before week 14. He tried too hard in the last game, but the defense was complete dogshit. It's like Rex gave Revis a script to follow and it happened. Keep him as early 2016 starter, draft a young buck and develop. As long as he can deal with 8mil per year.
Agreed. I am interested to see if any teams come after Fitz. Or if the Jets just lock him up before anyone can.
I'm sure that Fitz' agent would want him to talk to other teams to pressure the Jets to up their bid. I hope Fitz is smart enough to not get too cute here and realize that he succeeds here because he has the WR's and Chan Gailey. But I wouldnt put it past a sports agent to leak that $10mio number the week before the Buffalo game. Even if the Jets won thats just crazy talk unless alot of that money is not guaranteed. Fitz is a $5-6 mio/year guaranteed QB. If they want to structure his contract around his performance after (like a million dollar bonus for winning the Super Bowl) I'm OK with that.
I am sure the Jets have a number (10M for 2 years?) anymore than that and the Jets won't be able to sign/resign the others players that we need. If someone wants him for more than that the Jets should pass. no reason to pay huge bucks for a good journeyman QB. Lam
Maybe I am mistaken, but I swear I remember reading an article 2-3 weeks ago that said the Jets had never had a 1,000 receiver before. It shocked me then, because I thought surely Maynard, maybe Sauer, Walker, Toon, Key, Cole, Chrebet, at least one of them would have. I just looked it up. I am mistaken. Numerous WRs did, even Bake Turner. Maybe I was confusing that with the Jets never having a WR with 100 catches in a season. Must be.
Mistaken, there have been several. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/single-season-receiving.htm
Mistaken or not...Marshall is pretty much the most talented receiver to wear a Jets uniform. If only we had him on our team while Sancho was here....
Yep. I looked it up at that site, and was typing up the list of those who had and the years they di, and hit a wrong key on my keyboard and the whole freaking post disappeared. Pisses me off. LOL I had spent at least a half hour typing all that crap in . We also had had two WRs with 1,000 yards in the same season. Don Maynard had the most with 5 - 1,000 yard seasons.
IMO winning a SB wouldn't have been worth to have to still be stuck with those assclowns. IMO there are more important things than winning.
I think Don Maynard was just as talented, if not more. The game is very different now. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
I debated with myself the exact same point. What swayed me to Marshall was his physicality. Brandon would have dominated in that era. I don't think Maynard would do so good in this one.
It tied him for 10th with aaron rodgers and 1 behind drew brees. both are considered top 5 QBs in the NFL for the past 5 years or so. Tom brady led the NFL with 36 only 5 more and fitz missed a game in which geno threw for 2 TDs as well
So if I do the math...that means GeNo would have tossed 32 TD's? That one extra TD would have edged the Bills and launched us into the playoffs and a probable Super Bowl Trophy! Oh the pain!
I don't think Brandon would have dominated at all. In fact, he may not have even played. They didn't put up with a lot of the stuff he did early in his career, didn't have the medication and therapy resources we have today. He may have been stuck in some mental institution. I think Maynard would do just fine in this era. Why do you think he wouldn't? He was fast, had great hands, was a great football player. If he grew up in this era, he would have worked out more and been stronger.
