bowles has some improvement to make with clock and risk management. That's par for the course with any rookie head coach. Coughlin made WAY worse clock management decisions and risk management decisions by the way. oh and Bowles managed the QB position correctly (which is something we haven't had here in awhile).. he was very good at in game adjustments and he rallied his team in the face of 2 crucial moments: the geno smith punch and the midseason swoon. A bad coach would fuck up both these scenarios.
Are you seriously comparing this boards in game decisions to TB lol its a lot easier deciding what to do on your couch as opposed to in game, on the field, in the moment, high pressure... decisions
i think most are wallowing in the expression, and do feel sorry for themselves (along with a sense of entitlement to whine and bash). but you are a good and rational poster, so i'm not going to tell you how to feel. and i can't be mad at anyone who can successfully pluralize persona that's grade A wordsmithing...
Basically the Jets were fools gold this year. Beating the Patriots and then losing to the Bills is inexcusable. 10-6 is a decent record, but a good team with that schedule would have won 12 games. The Jets looked better than they were because the competition was flat out bad. No team that loses to the Bills twice, the Raiders and the Texans with TJ Yates deserves to be in the playoffs. If you really look at the offense, they weren't that good. Yeah, better QB play than we've had in a while but Ivory disappeared down the stretch again and without Powell, they have nobody that can make plays as a running back. Down the stretch, all of the Jets weaknesses were exposed. They started almost every game completely flat on both sides of the ball and relied on 4th quarter comebacks to barely beat downright bad teams via last minute comebacks (ie Dallas and Giants). No team that starts virtually every game like that is going to win in the playoffs. Teams march down the field to score touchdowns on the first or 2nd possession of every game. This has been the case for years and that shouldn't happen to great defenses. The offense was good in the redzone but also had some of the most 3&outs in the league. Tight End was a huge issue, the offense was definitely not dynamic enough as a result and special teams were god awful every game. If they don't completely revamp special teams I will be upset. Also the linebackers can't set the edge worth a damn, and the offensive line needs a youth movement. The Bills dominated the up front on both sides of the ball last game, it just didn't seem like the Jets were well prepared at all for many of the games this year. Some of that is on coaching. So this draft needs to be all oline and linebackers. Try to get a TE via free agency or trade, retain Powel. Lock up Wilkerson if he's healthy and see what value we can get out of Richardson. I love the Dline but they put virtually no pressure on the Bills all game with Wilk, Richardson, Snacks and Williams. How is that even possible? Hopefully the Jets can get back on the ball this off season and address the glaring weaknesses. I doubt it will happen, but they should try as hard as they can to convince Westhoff to come back. ST has deteriorated since he left. You can't win games with a punter that shanks easy ones for 20-30 yards net gain. You can't win games with the constant flags on special teams giving free first downs.
Nice use of the word swoon there. Bowles' in game management for the most part was excellent. He made great half time adjustments. That's why it's so puzzling why he dropped the ball so hard in guarding Watkins and the underneath routes. Makes me believe Mr. Revis had a lot more single coverage in which he was terrified of giving up a big play, merely settling to let Watkins catch everything at 10 yards and less with a 12 yard cushion. Glad Bowles backed his player though. From loud brash Rex back down to no personality feels excellent.
It's moment like these that make me forget the Same Ol Jets moniker. Folk missing that field goal would've been typical.
No, not at all a bad season...thats what increases the frustration Blocker. Did you expect us to lose up in Buffalo last weekend? We had all the more motivation sans Powell. We found a way to win so many games like Dallas, NE, Giants. You would think the team was maturing. Instead, a death dealing loss...no thanks to Quigly and Bullock but we had our whole team intact to get it done. So why did we lose in Buffalo? Mevi$? You tell me why please
This was a Same Old Jets moment ,After that season we all thought Superbowl we were even favorites in Vegas. We haven't been back to the playoffs since,In fact we haven't had a winning record until this year. Thanks for nothing Rex
NYJO12 (need to get you a good nickname LOL) Hope you don't mind if I jump in here... I can't say I expected a win. Yes they were on a roll after the Pats. But we haven't had too many 6 game win streaks in our history, especially to end the season, so I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. We should have beaten the Bills and we certainly could have beaten them. To have the ball on the 14 only to get picked off in the EZ certainly doesn't help. Revis laying off Watkins enabling endless 3rd downs without adjustment shouldn't have happened, Bad special teams, no Ivory, no Powell... it all adds up. Teams do come up short in big spots (see Steelers week 16), and we have our share of big wins also. Bowles & staff made mistakes. I didn't like the flat starts, but it was countered by strong finishes for the most part. I don't think its SOJ...and I am happy that we are not getting KILLED in the media (thanks to Tom Coughlin for "retiring"). But I will say this. The last five Jet coaches before Bowles had winning records in their first season. The last three made the play-offs in their first year. We were all very optimistic after year one of Herm, Mangenius and Rex. All regimes ended poorly. So, before we go all "SOJ", I would wait. There are some good signs and things to build on. But I also think that 2016 is an enormous season, to see what Mac does, how he handles Wilk & the QB situation, what happens with Brick and the rest of the OL, how they draft, how Bowles improves, how much do the older players still have in the tank. etc. Joe Beningo recently said he didn't expect to see this regime in place in 3-4 years. That's certainly keeping with past history, but I'm not ready to be so pessimistic just yet.
Joe Benigno's logic is that it hasn't worked in the past so let's try something different. That's going on flawed logic that history repeats itself, which it doesn't. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
Bowles sucks as illustrated by the fact he made NO adjustments at halftime to the defense. This has NOTHING to do with being a first year head coach and EVERYTHING to do with being smart and savvy which TB isn't. Inexcusable and we are stuck with this this POS now for who knows how long. I like MM and he did the best with plugging the holes until TB just f*cked it up.
Please leave the sarcasm behind. Bowles is pedestrian at best. And let's not even talk about the Ivory disappearance. The dude is a FA - YOU RIDE HIM TO THE GROUND.
Yea Bowles Sucks ,Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career year ,we had a top 10 offense a top D we went from 4-12 to 10-6 and missed the playoffs because the Football gods hate the Jets.Bowles is gonna be a great coach he already started to turn this franchise around. If you really belive that then you prove you dont know anything about the game
Yes blaming the Football gods but not the head coach for poor decisions throughout,,,,,,, and I'm the one who doesn't know anything about the game. ****and we were 4-12 with NOBODY. We were well stacked this year. So applaud the 10-6 no playoffs and losing to the one team who was 7-8 and kept you from advancing. Stay with same SOJ mentality. MEDIOCRITY and PARTICIPATION AWARDS RULE THE DAY!!
Its just a disappointing year all around. What's crazy is that if you asked me in week 7 I thought an 8-8 team could get a wildcard in the AFC. Who would have thought the Chiefs would win 10 straight games. Bowles doesn't deserve much credit for this year. IMO this was likely his best chance with a good roster, soft schedule, and wide open AFC. Five of our Six losses were games in which the Jets were favorites and the only games he won as an underdog was @ Indianapolis week 2 and the beat up Patriots week 16.
What's most likely to happen is that Bowles finishes next year 8-8 and is coaching for his job in 2017.
