come on stokes. A guy is a good backup with mediocre/marginal returns as a starter for 10 years- goes to his 6th team, looks like a mediocre starter with ups and downs. outside of 5 games where he didnt and you really are asking why the fuck anyone would be of the opinion that he won't be able to repeat it? especially since he's had stretches of great promise and slinked back into mediocrity before.....?
That's my exact point. Don't mean to sound like I'm a Geno lover by any means which is probably what people take me for on here. Seems either you love Fitz or your characterized as a Geno lover. I never loved Fitzpatrick, but I had to bite my tongue during his big 5 game stretch cause he looked great. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
As long as he has Decker and Marshall, he's gonna be a very good QB. Both of those guys are outstanding wide receivers. And I don't think people are giving him enough credit considering the circumstance he was in. Yes, he has Decker and Marshall, the leagues best WR duo, but he had no TE and a RB who was injured for much of the year. Not having a TE is a big deal considering they can be a QBs best friend, especially on third downs and big conversions. Give Fitzpatrick a better line, a starting TE, and a healthy RB and I think he does better next year, with experience now, than he did this past year
I haven't liked Fitz much but heck I haven't liked many Jets quarterbacks they usually stink ... he did give us a record breaking season so for what its worth I'll remain a bit optimistic for him, and a good return for 2016
I think it all falls back to the way he's playing and the people he's surrounded by. Yes, everything you said is absolutely correct, but he didn't have the coaches he has now. He didn't have the best receiving duo in the league. Hell, he even said this is the first time he's ever been texting and contacting his receivers constantly. If you look purely at a statistic stand point, yes, I can see why people would say he could regress. But that's not what this is about. This is much deeper than statistics. It's his way of playing, his chemistry with his receivers, his off field hunger to get better, the entire player he's become. I don't think this was another up year for him in a career filled with ups and downs. I think this is a huge step forward for him in a system with players he is very comfortable with.
It takes some guys time and the right place to thrive. I'm not saying he's a top 5 QB but his progress this year looked--to me--legit. I saw a guy very confident in himself and his receivers, had total command of the offense and got better as the year went on. With a fucked up thumb. I don't know, maybe I'm an optimist. I don't expect pro bowls but I think he was pretty damn good for us, could easily replicate that for another year. And is better--right now--than the alternatives. And I love me some Bryce Petty and was dying to see him get some snaps this year. It might be another year away for him. _
I think outside of the fact about having a great receiving duo the rest of your post is all mumbo/jumbo soap opera media stuff. "off field hunger" - - texting.. etc. who cares about that.
Well, that's a personal opinion. I think it means a lot, especially in the growth of chemistry between them all. It was awesome watching the pre game interview with Marshall Decker and Fitz. A lot of that has to do with the off field behavior. Just as Marshall said against New England. He and Fitz texted about a certain look the defense gives and if they do, a certain play they will run. Fitz saw it and as he looked over at Marshall, Marshall was already signaling him the same thing. That's the chemistry you build off the field. That's what the good QBs do
he was very good for us this year. I won't deny that. I like Fitzpatrick a lot, I admire the way he plays the game of football and he is a "good guy" in a league with a lot of bad guys. obviously as the starting QB of my favorite team anyway I hope he can have another very good year for us but I can also see how this season was THE outlier of the guy's career and I am not going to throw a career's worth of results out the window when I think about how he might look next year
I guess for some fans, the book is completely written on Fitz. I keep seeing things like "Fitz is a backup QB, has always been a backup QB, will always be a backup QB, he sucked in Buffalo, Tennessee, Houston". Did Fitz play like a backup this year? _
This is a fair post. Like I said, I can see why people say it on a statistical standpoint. But the non statistical standpoint is also an opinion based view. Let's hope he gets better and doesn't regress haha
that post wasn't entirely serious, more to make you think about how a game or two (or 5 game stretch) can change perceptions but stokes my sample size is 10 years in the nfl. sunday's game looked more like he has his whole career than the week before did for example.
