1. Powell is a UFA 2. Powell is another year older 3. Powell was hurt most of the year which is a big reason we lost several close games (including last week) and are home watching the playoffs 4. One RB with speed and hands is nice, two such RBs is better
New RT and maybe a new RG Consistent and pass-catching RBs A kick/punt returner to help our field position a #3 WR who can separate, preferably on the perimeter since Decker is well suited for the slot in Gailey's offense Maybe go out and sign Dwayne Allen? He can catch and block but wasn't utilized in Indy with all their receivers and Coby Fleener
What do you guys think about Doug Martin? He would be an upgrade over either of the guys we had this year.
I don't know if you cna make the offense better because Fitzpatrick probably regresses. But running back, tight end, third wide receiver, guard, and tackle seem like areas that can be improved. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
I don't think Fitz regresses. He's finally found a "sweet spot" and comfort zone for himself as an NFL qb. Fitz is in a the perfect situation for himself. Surround him with more weapons and he can have an even better year. He's 33, not 38
He just had a ridiculous run in 5 games that's probably unprecedented for him. That skewed his stats. Also he throws a ton of interceptable balls, those can change from drops, or pass break ups to picks pretty easily. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
I'm of the opinion that Jace Amaro will thrive in this offense, it's a pass oriented scheme and he came from that type of offense. The Jets need to strengthen the QB, OL, ILB and RB position.
He also throws a ton of catchable balls that get dropped by Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, Smith et al. Those can change to completions, first downs, sustained drives, flip-flopping of field position, defense staying on the sideline, FGs instead of punts, TDs instead of FGs, just plain more touch downs--all leading to more wins, pretty easily. Am I doing this right? _
Well sure. But he throws more interceptable balls than the average QB. If he threw an average number of them then I wouldn't have cited the stat. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where I can find the actual number. I get that drops and interceptable balls happen for all QBs. It was just a larger number for Fitzpatrick which doesn't bode well. I'm not a Geno truther either which you may think by my picture I just never changed it. I appreciated Fitzpatrick this season for sure. I'm just referencing tweets from Cian Fahey on his interceptable balls stat, who writes for bleacher report. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
Nothing Fitzpatrick did this year leads me to believe he will regress. I keep hearing this from people. He came to this team having a very good year in Houston. Why they released him, I have no idea, but this isn't an anomaly. He was having a solid year there before his injury. He comes here and struggles somewhat at first, trying to get comfortable considering he was injured going into the year. He finds his comfort zone and becomes a very good QB here. That's not a guy who had a freak year. That's a guy that has always had the talent but never had a chance to grow with quality receivers. I fully expect Fitzpatrick to have a very similar year next year, or better. He now has an entire off season to prepare and has an entire season of experience with this group of guys.
Did he talk about his obvious and voluminous number of drops? Like TD drops or drive killing drops in games we LOST? Did he mention the walk in drop by Enunwa last week? That maybe wins the game? _
Yeah, I watched all the games this year. Granted some on delay because I do have a life other than football. You say he's not a top tier QB, then how can you expect him to lead the Jets to a SB? I certainly don't. What I noticed about Fitzpatrick is that he is one of the few QB's I've seen in that last 20 years that actually steps up into the pocket when he feels the pressure like he's supposed to do. The fact that there is a pocket for him to step up into tells me the O-line is doing it's job. What I'm saying is that Fitzpatrick did a good job this year, but I'm also saying we've seen the best he has to offer and I don't think it's good enough to go all the way to the top.
Okay you can think he's guaranteed to be the same QB. I'll remain skeptical. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
His chemistry with his receivers followed a pattern one would expect. Guys he never threw to started bad, got incrementally better and by the last month of the season was off the charts. Why the fuck would anyone think he's going to get worse and not better? Because he's a year older? That's idiotic at his age. _
Siena, I don't think your takes are unreasonable. That 5 stretch of games was unlike has Fitzpatrick has looked for most of his 11 year career. I hope he doesn't next year but I could certainly see him regressing. your take is a controversial one here but I don't think its a wrong one. Fitzpatrick had a similar 5 game stretch in Buffalo and they gave him the keys to the franchise. We know that didn't turn out so well. moral of that story: don't hitch yourself to that bandwagon too hard. also- I have no issue with your point (a point you cited) about passes he threw up for grabs. It was definitely visible that he got away with a lot lucky bounces. People like to talk about the Enunwa drop in the Buffalo game but the first drive Fitzpatrick nearly (should've) thrown a pick 6 as it was right in the guy's chest. He throws a lot up for grabs that's good and bad, people need to remember that. I don't see anything wrong with remaining skeptical about Fitzpatrick
I don't think there is any guarantee of anything and you can be as skeptical as you like. There is nothing in what he did this year that would lead a reasonable person to believe he is necessarily going to regress next year. Dropped INTs and dropped TDs and drive killing drops even themselves out. If you are only going to look at the bad then sure, you'll think he throws 23 INTs next year and no corresponding positive adjustment from fewer dropped TDs and drive killing drops. I guess just the bad stuff is going to change for him next year and not the good stuff. _
