http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2016/01/browns_mike_pettine_and_ray_fa.html CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns coach Mike Pettine should've known he was in trouble when the schedule came out in April. Season finales against the Steelers are never a good thing for a struggling Browns coach. The last four were fired after season-ending losses to the Steelers, and Pettine is likely to become the fifth. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam seems inclined to "blow things up'' and fire Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer as early as Sunday night -- despite the fact he said in August that he wouldn't. League sources said Haslam has already been laying the groundwork for their replacements. The competition will be fierce and he has to act fast. Interviews could be scheduled as quickly as Sunday night.
And it is already announced that the answer is yes - Pettine and Farmer are gone. Manziel will be watching with interest. If you didn't hear, he was spotted gambling in Vegas last night. Those concussions are killers.
yeah I meant to post the Manziel thing but I forgot to come back and mention it. He was seen in LV Saturday and (not surprisingly) was a no show at the team's facility. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl-new...wing-up-to-browns-finale?eadid=SOC/Twi/SNMain Ex-Browns coach Mike Pettine is officially out in Cleveland, and Johnny Manziel may not be far behind him. The Browns second-year quarterback didn't show up to the team's practice facility on Sunday and the team was unable to reach him, according to Sports Illustrated. SI's Peter King reported that, "I will be stunned if he ever plays another snap for Cleveland. He wants to go to Dallas."
I cant remember a less attractive spot for a coach or GM. There is literally not one positive I can think of for Cleveland.
fuck Manziel for that clown shit. I wouldn't blame Cleveland for cutting his ass as soon as it's most convenient but I really hope this d bag doesnt get his wish and the opportunity with Dallas. I certainly dont think he'll make anything of it but it will be unsettling to see him get a reward for his stupid shenanigans
Manziel was in Vegas Saturday night with a concussion and didn't show up for the game? LOL If I was the owner I wouldn't cut him I would make him sit on the bench for a few years.
Gruden should leave the booth for Cleveland. We had to hear him endlessly suck Manziel's Dick for the entire 2014 draft coverage on ESPN. Now he's got the chance to coach manziel himself. Would be great to watch both their careers go down the toilet and I'll finally be able to listen to MNF again!
Manziel wants the Browns to get rid of him. I assume that's the reason for all his antics. Partying in Vegas and skipping team-mandated things while he has a concussion. Classic.
Not sure how true this is but here is some more Manziel news. http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/artic...th_drunken_practice_reports/s1_13132_20137567
no difference same as releasing him, Dallas could sign him off the PS that would surprise no one! At the bottom of the article: QUIZ: Name every Browns QB since their last Pro Bowler at the position Updated November 29, 2015 | Total tries: 1864 | Average Score: 6.4 out of 21 (30%) | Feedback? | More Quizzes! The last time the Cleveland Browns had a Pro Bowl quarterback was 2007. In the eight years since, fourteen different players have made starts at the position. Name them. Hint: None of them have been or are very good.
The Browns make me feel better about the Jets NEWS: Paul DePodesta named Browns Chief Strategy Officer READ: bit.ly/1Z5LGqQ A former BASEBALL GM lol
It's not Buffalo? The DePodesta pick for CSO is interesting. Sounds like the Browns are going to go all Moneyball and try to reinvent the wheel. Not likely to work but you have to give props to the ownership for trying something new when all past efforts have turned into flaming balls of gunk rolling downhill on them.
i saw that update, and had to rub my eyes. the Mets VP of player development will now be the top dog making the Brown's strategic football decisions. wow
I like it. I hope the moneyball approach works in the NFL as the league could use new thinking and strategies related to analytics instead of doing the same thing over and over again DePodesta originally wanted to be a football guy anyway. I think I remember reading he played football at Harvard and applied to the front offices of like every NFL team prior to getting his break with the Cleveland Indians and starting the moneyball craze with the A's.
