If the Bills owners were smart, they'd hire Idzik as the new GM. Get Rex to quit (not owe him anything), then strip the team for a rebuild.

Dareus, Jerry Hughes not spotted at start of Friday ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Defensive end Jerry Hughes and defensive tackle Marcell Dareuswere not spotted at the start of Friday's New Years Day practice, the Buffalo Bills' final practice of their 2015 season. However, Hughes was on the practice field at the end of practice and Dareus was listed on the injury report as a full participant with a neck injury. So what happened? "Initially we had a little issue," coach Rex Ryan said. "We had a little issue -- I'm not going to get into it -- but we're calling one of our players the UPS guy. He delivered the goods. We had to send him to go pick someone [up]." Was it Hughes who picked up Dareus? "I don't know," a coy Ryan said, smiling. "But we got the package here. ... I'm not going to get into specifics. But yeah, it was ... we had to scramble a little bit this morning." About six inches of snow fell Friday morning in the area around Ralph Wilson Stadium. Approached in the locker room, Hughes said he did not pick up Dareus and bring him to practice. Teammate Boobie Dixon, however, told a different story. "I think Jerry went and picked him up," Dixon said in the locker room after practice. "I think he was outside building a snowman or something. He got caught up in the snow. But he made it." Dareus had problems with being late to the team facility at the end of the 2013 season, leading to former coach Doug Marrone benching the Pro Bowl defensive tackle for the first quarter of their Week 16 win over the Miami Dolphins that season and then again for the first half of their 2013 finale against the New England Patriots. Games never stop with this clown do they? Late for practice with jobs and season on the line. Rex just laughs it off, no big deal. Clock was probably on central time though right? Meanwhile bowles benched our top player for a quarter in the midst of a playoff implication game. That's character.
Sounds like Thurman can't take the heat from the Buffalo media. Very awkward interview. http://bills.buffalonews.com/2016/01/01/248356/ My prediction is Rex brings Mike Pettine back as his DC after he's dumped by Cleveland on Monday.
i think pettine is staying, and even if he doesn't it, him and rex have had a falling out. they won't be pairing up anytime soon
Rex is in a desperate spot, he has to know that one more non-winning season probably does him in as a head coach for the foreseeable future. Pettine was the brains of the operation while he was here and I think Rex couldn't handle it. I think for once Rex puts his ego aside and mends the fence, if only to save his own ass. The two are still friendly and keep in close contact with each other despite what happened here. I don't think a reunion is out of the question. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news...-as-ever/3d6a5b0e-79c1-49b9-8fab-c6b266b16587 Obviously if Pettine stays then it's all moot.
Pettine kept Rex in check, but I don't think Rex wants to run his own defense through a puppet DC. If I were Pettine I don't think I'd work with Rex again and end up being a pseudo DC who's job is to filter Rex's nonsense. The guy did a nice job with BUF and got a head coaching gig; returning to Rex would be a double downgrade. What I could see if Thurman getting canned in favor of Rob Ryan. Rex would have the ultimate yesman + brother and if it worked would help rehabilitate Rob; who's well on his way to being out of the league.
I wonder if anyone on that defense likes Rex Ryan the HC. Mario Williams? No. Dareus? No. Jerry Hughes? Doesn't look like it. Those are your 3 best players on D.
Typical. The players have to be the leaders and grown ups, not Rex. What a sorry excuse for a football coach he is!
If Pettine is fired, I think it would be a mistake by Cleveland, but if he is, I would be shocked if he went to work for Rex again. The only way I can see that happening, is that he gets no other job offer and has money issues. Rex is a dumbass and a hopeless case. Pettine has to know that. Rex would be a millstone around Rex's neck. Pettine going back would only serve to help make Rex look better, not Pettine.
The Browns love firing head coaches, so I wouldn't be surprised if they chuck him. I'd love for you to be right, because I think Pettine would do a good job turning that D around.
The bold part is so true, it was evident when he coached the Jets, but it's much worse over in BUF. I used to think Rex was a defensive mastermind, but he can't even integrate the players he has into a defensive scheme that utilizes their strengths. Far from a leader as well ... Rex might not even last 2 seasons with the Bills. I don't know what I was thinking then ... So glad he's gone! He lost his locker room half-way through the season, it's insane!
I won't be surprised if they fire Pettine, either. He's smart and a good football coach, so I think they'd be making a mistake. I think the owner(s?) there need to do what Woody did...hire some consultants to advise him on what the problems are with the Browns' organization. I don't know much about them, but it sounds like the problem is in their Scouting/Personnel area and GM. They need to clean out the FO, get someone knowledgeable to run the team, acquire talent, and keep Pettine to coach the team.
Rex fools lots of people. He talks a great game and comes across as very gregarious and engaging. He's funny. Those things serve to distract one from seeing how juvenile he is, how he doesn't have a leadership bone in his entire body, how he's delusional, and how he isn't qualified to be a HC at any level.
