I think his reason was they thought there defense would stop the Jets or force a turnover and make it easyer to kick the field goal.Either way it doesn't make sense unless he wanted us to win after seeing the scoreboard that the Steelers lost
Belichick wanted to kick but the mistake is that Slater said "we want to kick" rather than "we will defer." In doing so, jets were allowed to choose the side that they would receive, which led Slater to ask mistakenly "don't we get to choose?" This is a kick/defer issue. Belichick wanted to kick the entire time (for some reason). I think Belichick cared more about getting the right side than actually receiving first, so Slater still screwed up. Also explains why Cro was confused about getting to choose which side.
It sounds crazy but I wouldn't put that past him. Us winning drastically reduces pittsburghs chance of making the playoffs. They're a very dangerous team I'm sure BB rather play us again at home than the steelers if he had a choice.
I'm convinced the Patriots do not want to play the Steelers. Nothing else makes sense after watching this game.
I don't buy that for a second. He fell on the sword to save face for his moron player. What a wonder win.
Patriots went for 4th down on 4 separate occasions during that game. They were clearly trying to win, but they were also playing conservatively to limit any injuries.
This is from Slater after the game: ""I just asked (Belichick) three or four times just to make sure I'm not the guy that goes out there, 'Yeah, we want to kick off.' So I double-checked three or four times. I think he was looking at me like 'Are you concussed?' because I kept asking him. But that's what we wanted to do. You never question a coach's decision-making. He's the best in the business and we trust him fully, so that's what we do." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ichick-defends-pats-kicking-to-begin-overtime They really wanted to kick!
They were already beat up. This win was hardly impressive from the Jets perspective. They should have destroyed this week's Patriots team. If they do this in the playoffs in Foxboro with NFL wide receivers and a secondary, that would be something to talk about.
Lol look at this peasant Pats fan trying to downplay a loss. Typical. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't believe that you can defer in an overtime situation. When you win the game opening toss, you defer your decision (i.e. kick/receive, or which goal you will defend) to the opening of the second half.
Oops my bad. I meant that Beli wanted Slater to choose to defend/kick from a particular side (knowing that the Jets would choose to receive). Instead he chose to kick, so The Jets could pick which side they wanted.
