9 months just to get back on the field. Not 100%, that's just to get back on the field.

If he has surgery next week after the swelling goes down, which is par for the course, that's 9 months from December 21.

That's September 21 JUST to get back on the field.

No OTAs. No minicamps. No training camp.

That's week 3 of the season. Is he going to be on the 53 man roster if he's not available to week 3 at the earliest?

We're not talking Marshall or Decker, guys we're counting on.

We're talking about a 2nd year player who had minimal production this year coming off major knee surgery.

At best he's on 6 week IR with designation to return.

The Jets aren't waiting until week 6 of 2016 thinking he's the savior.

Again, it's a cruel business but 2016 is likely a lost year for him.

And 2017 he could be a faded memory.

    I'm rooting for him.

    I'm not counting on him.

It's a waste of rooting energy IMO--I didn't like the pick and I didn't like his skipping of minicamp. He's taking the guarantee and that's that. Doubt we'll ever see him again IMO. We can speculate as to why he was even taken but that water under the bridge.

    I'm a Jet fan.

I have an unlimited supply of rooting energy.

I'm still rooting for Brett Ratliff to make a comeback.

It's ruthless. A year ago Devin Smith made a name for himself dominating on CFB biggest stage. He was a four year player at OSU and had good production and measurables. Subsequently he gets drafted in the second round and proceeds to break his ribs and miss all of training camp. Naturally he comes in an really struggles becoming public enemy #1 after costing the Jets the Rex Ryan bowl. Finally after a good game where he finally shows something he tears his ACL and is now an after thought.

Best case scenario is that he returns in the middle of next season, we should sign or draft another guy. Kerley is probably out after this season regardless, hopefully he comes back stronger... Although he does seem a little brittle

i'm sick of people saying they didn't like the pick, like who the hell cares. dudes a jet and he will be for the next few years. stop trying to validate your sports knowledge by saying you didn't like the pick of a guy who tore his ACL

Other than Harris, my vote would be LaMont Jordan, 2001.

Add Mike Nugent to that list of stellar second rounders...

Didn't RG3 tear his ACL in a playoff game and started the first game the next season?

I hope he gets well, but he had the same receiving skills as Cumberland.

I am a big Macagnon supporter and to our GMs credit DSmith was just one bad transaction out of many winners

In theory he was supposed to be the long ball threat...well not everyone gonna be an Odell Beckham or Laron Landry SMH

I hope Smith recovers and gets another chance but lets look at the big pic here

7-1/2 months. With a recovery that Dr. Andrews called "miraculous".

And then he looked like complete shit.

Nine months at a minimum, a year and a half at a minimum to be 100%.

No one should expect anything from him in 2016 and in 2017 he's an afterthought but it'll be all up to him.

Like I said I'm rooting for him.

I'm no Smith fan but in his defense NYJets12 its hard being a deep ball threat on a team where your QB can't throw the ball on target over 20 yards

Exactly..pretty much every fly he ran he had his defender beat easily and not once did the ball get there. Hell, he was a star at Ohio state, not southwest denunk u...he know how to play the game.

He rarely had his defender beat and the one time he did Fitz threw him a perfect bomb that hit him in both hands and in stride.

    You know what he did.
