Would you think we were f-cked if the Jets found Brick's eventual replacement (who would start at RT in 2016), a terrific pass-rushing OLB prospect, and a speedy WR/PR/KOR in the draft, and signed another quality FA OG to start at RG?
New? I think he did pretty darned well with some holdovers from previous regimes this year. Next draft it will be all his scouts and personnel people. I trust in Mac.
He is lost. I have watched the guy. He is not physical with corners at all. They push him all over the place. But his indecisiveness is very likely the result of having no pre-season. I mean, for all of this speed they talk about, I have only seen him get behind guys once or twice all season. I have visions of Lam Jones in my head. It also seems Fitz had stopped looking for him. Funny, I was commenting on how good he looked as a gunner yesterday and on the next punt he got hurt. This season is just a wash. The summer injury probably ruined him for this year. Too bad he got hurt yesterday. He will come into next season behind again if this is serious.
His problem is that he is too small to really challenge the grown up CB's in the league. Most teams have bigger CB's and Safeties now and I think Smith is....199. He's gonna have to get stronger but not necessarily bigger which usually means more time in the weight room.
Lost for the season also it was a lost season for him....he made no impact at all this season....one note Fitz was right on target all day and every pass to Smith was 10 feet off the mark just a coincidence?
You have to have patience with rookie WRs. Very few of them can have the impact of an OBJ their first year, especially if you don't have a premier passing QB, and especially when you have a new offense being installed. I remember Wesley Walker dropped a lot of passes his first year.
I feel like WR out of any other position in football is one u should look to draft every year, look at the Steelers. They draft a WR almost every year consistently... Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton, Martavis Bryant and Sammie Coats. Note one drafted in the 1st just keep selecting till u hit... Some teams obviously hit more than others. But we are in a position to draft them in the later rounds. This is a passing league now and our WRs are making Fitz Magic
Steelers should strongly consider drafting Oline....their secondary has been shaky this season too Yes, their receivers are top tier every year.
If we learned one thing this season is to appreciate how fragile each and every position is and how quickly a strength position can become the weakest if we do not properly draft depth. WR is no exception. I remember how people were crying at the end of preseason this year as to why we were keeping so many CB/Safety. just 2 weeks ago we were paper thin. My point is simply to encourage the thinking that most positions need to be refreshed and strengthen every year. So if BPA is clearly a WR, or QB, or whatever the case might be, you jump on it head first like we did last year with Williams. WR could go from strength to weakness is a nano second. If we are lucky BPA= Need and we pounce on OLB and/or OL, but sure as hell should not overreach like our predecessors have done in the past. Typically immediate need is something to search in free agency, while the draft gives you strength, continuity, depth and growth. IMO not many have done that better than the Steelers, as evidenced by stud WR year in and year out.

True but it works both ways, Geno I think is below average but he wasn't really given a chance with the lack of playmakers around him. It's simply easier in the league to find a great skill guy vs a great QB . And I'd say our WRs are making Fitz look better than he is making them. Regardless of Devin Smiths status we should draft a WR next year in the middle rounds.
