Adam Schein Retweeted Brian Costello Mike T / Bradway wanted Chandler Jones followed by Ingram, DeCastro, Upshaw next on list. Rex wanted Coples. This says it all.
which draft was worse, the 8 picks in 2012 or the 12 picks in 2014? it would be hard to top 2014, but 2012 is making a strong case.
i honestly don't think he would have been. he's not an edge rusher, he's proven that. so 3 tech? maybe in subpackages but not base imo. and he couldn't get on the field in our own subpackages in which 3 tech was played. he isn't miscast. he's just not very good.
Not conspiratorial at all. The timing met perfectly with the current situation with the team, the coach and the long term plans of the FO. I assume that Mac would have done his due diligence to trade Coples before the deadline. Once there were no tackers and his playing time decreased, the writing was on the wall. Mac has no allegiance to Coples so no reason not to make the move. Plus from a PR standpoint it takes some heat off the coach, who is quickly running the team into the ground with poor game management and inadequate preparation.
I remember Schein on SNY bashing the pick way back when there were numerous red flag warnings about Coples' effort & taking plays off. He did a Rex Ryan imitation pounding his chest "I'll get him to play at an elite level! I am Rex Ryan!!" Rex Ryan: --- "he's a great player, - there no doubt about it."
That's easy. 2012 is worse. Allen and Davis are all that's left in 2012. Allen is on IR and Davis sucks. 2014 gave us Pryor who's been big this year after a year with Rex in a foreign position (FS) speaking of Coples, what a coincidence. Amaro is too early to judge, Guys like Eifert took awhile to develop. Enunwa and Reilly have proved to be decent reserves. And Dozier is at least on the roster. Dex was a dumb pick that 31 other GM's may have taken in the 6th round, same with Saunders, Evans sucked, George has proven he's capable of being a decent reserve but the morons cut him here. IK would be out of the league if not for Rex, Boyd shouldn't have been drafted in the CFL and Brandon Dixon sucked. 2012 slightly worse than 2014.
I am sure there are people that have developed into something in the NFL with this 'flag' on them in college, but, man, I hate this label and want no part of any player going forward with a high draft pick. I distinctly remember the day Coples was drafted and this being said about him. I hoped against hope that he would not 'loaf', but the label proved to be well earned. The immortal Rex Ryan does shoulder some blame for moving him to a position that didn't fit his skillset...
2014 was geometrically worse. Not because who we took but because of who we didn't. We could have been set up for a decade had we taken Teddy or Carr. _
it would make a good thread and a good debate (but i'm too lazy to craft it)... by next year, i don't think any 2012 draftees will remain with the team. however, 2014 is still worse imo. 12 picks in an extremely deep draft, with half gone within a season, and the other half just hanging on. the only player worth anything is Pryor, and i don't consider him a first round talent. that draft was epic.....but in the wrong way
Yesterday was the first time I saw Bridgewater and the Vikes this year. I was somewhat impressed, but am not sure he's a sure thing to succeed. Maybe I should say sure thing to survive. I know he came back from that hit, but I wonder if he's going to be fragile. Jus sayin...
I seriously hope this means Jets are looking to add speed to their linebackers. Jets linebackers are, regardless of the position, JUST WAY TOO DAMN SLOW. I've been critical of these DE-turned-OLBs that have infested the Jets D for ages by now. [Cactus ring a bell?]
No, that was IK. After seeing the play from the QB the last few weeks, Coples tried to punch Fitzpatrick so he could be of some use to the Jets too.
Good, it was time. Great person, he didn't deserve this type of bullshit any longer. Hope he finds a new home somewhere and they move him back to DE/DT. I don't know why but I have a feeling he ends up in Oakland. Maybe it's the Seymour thing...I don't know.
