The only way players would care even close to as much as fans do, is if the winners got paid more than the losers do. Have that in sports and you will see some entertainment every week.
well that's how it works already. they don't typically give players contract extensions for contributing to losses and players already get bonuses for playoffs and Super Bowls
Not really. Kyle Wilson is still in the league so whats that say? But Im talking about a weekly basis. If a player could make 200 grand in a win instead of 50 in a loss you would see them care. Flat out most players just dont care whether they win or lose.
This is a good point. Statistics are funky things. OTOH, both of these sets of stats combined definitely lends some credence to the argument that Bowles presence, or lack thereof, in Arizona has had no impact. I think that worries me. Better or worse, up against better or worse offenses, the Cards lost what was supposed to be a very good DC and a very good CB (Cromartie). Given how Cro has played he has either lost a step from last year (which is entirely possible) or the Cards D was more an asset covering up for him than the other way around. Since I haven't watched a Cards game in lord knows when, I'll defer to others. As for Bowles, this is tough. The whole "Fire Bowles" crowd is really rushing things, but I was never terribly thrilled with the hiring to begin with and I don't see him energizing the team. I give him credit for a good start, but for me the sign of a quality coach isn't what you do when all your players are available and everything is running smoothly--the real test comes when you are losing starting players and you have to scratch together your team from unexpected places. I see Bowles falling apart at the moment. Anyone remember how BP nearly recovered the season when VT went down? That was pretty damn impressive in my book. This is Bowles's chance to prove his mettle.
Yeah, they'll be pissed to beat up on a terrible Dolphins team! Then they'll be feeling all good going into the Giants where they will get embarrassed again.
I like this idea. NFLPA never goes for it, but damn it would make the games better. Talk about putting some passion back in the game. Then again, if it's that much money you might see guys bringing tire irons on the field and it turning into a wholesale whoop ass fest...... I'm not saying that's bad, but it'd change the game. Would add whole new meaning to "jacking up" the QB.
Yeah it would never happen in a million years. Mostly because it would probably cause a ton of fights in the locker room between teammates. Imagine a RB having a 200 yard game with 2 TD's and his QB throws 3 picks and the team loses. That RB is going to go insane after that game. But it really is the only way most players would care about wins and losses. Fact is 90 percent of players just want to put in a good game. A win is nice but I dont think its top priority for most guys outside of the quarterback.
that is simply not true. not in any way is that true. I'm sure there's some players that don't care if they win or lose but I doubt they last long in this league. Now there is differing levels of wanting to win of course but there's just no way most* players don't care either way. You don't work at something your whole life, prepare endlessly, sacrifice your bodies and health for something and don't care about the results. Even common sense would say thats not the case
they are 3-3 after their coach got fired and are playing INSPIRED FOOTBALL, they lost to teams we lost to, and beat teams we lost to, i wouldn't underestimate them they are not the same dolphins team that we beat in london. Kind of goes to my point in our team needs to get angry and get inspired and play to their potential.
The result is the paycheck. Its why some players go to garbage teams for more $$ over good teams for less.
Some go to a garbage team for more money because they want to make money but that doesn't mean don't care about winning. You can want to make the most money possible and still want to win. In fact, I'd argue if you don't have that philosophy you aren't going to last long
Well yeah sure you can care about both. But how many players do you think are still bothered by the loss yesterday? Most guys just want to make enough of an impact to prove their worth. A win doesnt make up for a bad day for most players but a good day stat wise could make up for a loss. To a lot of them , its just a job.
i'm willing to bet most of, if not the whole locker room is bothered by the loss yesterday. you keep making untrue comments like you know they are true facts "A win doesnt make up for a bad day for most players but a good day stat wise could make up for a loss" how the hell do you know that? ...
And I would take that bet. But bothered to what extent? Because the media always sucks worse after a loss than it does after a win? Or the fact that they actually have to be at practice today which usually doesnt happen after wins? There are plenty of reasons for a player to be pissed about a loss. But the bottom line of it with us being 5-5 instead of 6-4 , to me , that doesnt bother many of the players on the team.
they are human beings dude not robots on the factory line. of course they are pissed they lost in Houston. Of course they want to be 6-4 over 5-5, etc, that's not even accounting for the fact that they would make more money if this team made the playoffs and yesterday's loss hurt those chances
Actually Im not really even bothered by yesterdays loss. I used to get absolutely pissed about losses when I was younger. But as I get older it bothers me less and less. These days hockey and baseball means more to me because I think those players actually give a shit.
