Jeez, --- the 2012 JETS draft is a beauty. 1st rounder Quinton Coples & 2nd rounder Stephen Hill (on the Carolina Panthers practice squad if I am not mistaken).
you can't put a guy on IR unless he's hurt. Coples doesn't get hurt because he's lazy and lately hasn't even been on the field
because this HC needs to wake-up this under-performing team and let players know that performance counts... he said yesterday they would review everything...I hope he makes more dam changes ... its needed.
Niners just ended Kaep's season with a phantom injury. Just doesnt make sense to release him. Is this the teams way of making a point? They should've released Cro if that is the case.
you'd think they'd be able to trade him to a base 4-3 team for SOMETHING??! I wonder if the dude went on a rant about the loss and his non-playing time in the locker room.....
Ryan likened Coples to Ellis and Trevor Pryce, who succeeded as an interior pass rusher when both were with the Ravens. “To get rewarded and be a Jet, it’s unbelievable,” said Coples, who made a visit to the Jets last week. “(Ryan) told me if I was there at 16, he was going to take me... no matter what. Although general manager Mike Tannenbaum admitted that he “did field some calls” and did “monitor activity” for a trade up or down, he said he was happy to select Coples when he was available at No. 16 after the Seahawks made a surprise selection at No. 15 by picking WVU pass rusher Bruce Irvin. The Chargers grabbed South Carolina DE/OLB Melvin Ingram, who was linked to the Jets, two picks later. The Patriots traded up later in the round to nab Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones, who was also on Gang Green’s radar. The Jets weren’t worried about the perception that Coples has an inconsistent motor and work ethic. “The thing you have to do is sit down and talk to the kid and find out where his heart is,” said Jets executive vice president of scouting Joey Clinkscales. “You dig as deep as you can. You do as much background work as you can. You find out his level of play through the years. And we were comfortable with that.” Said Tannenbaum: “It’s about the culture that we collectively built here. We think we’re adding a good player and a good person to our program.” http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...rusher-quinton-coples-no-16-article-1.1068456 Rex Ryan was the real boss in town and ruined our drafts...Albeit most of us were probably willing to take the risk with Coples, we failed miserably.
I don't buy any of this "Make a statement" bullshit. This was a guy that was riding the pine and not playing anyway. They held onto him this long ( through the trade deadline ), I see no reason / benefit for getting rid of him now. There are a handful of roster moves I would make at this point in the season that would send a much larger message to the team, and the fan-base. The overall reaction I'm hearing from the Coples cut is "huh?" Not surprise because the writing was on the wall with 8mil in cap next season and not playing. But it doesn't gain us anything. If it's his conduct then de-activate him for a couple games.. Suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team. I'm left shaking my head here, not because we lost a good player. But because I don't understand where this team is heading.
Very weird. I'd have deactivated him, if anything. Gotta be something going on other than a lack of production. _
Would have been nice to see what he could have become at his actual position (DL) Still 16.5 more sacks than Gholston Still a terrible pick.
They could've stayed put and even drafted the same position and ended up with Chandler Jones (rd 1) & Alshon Jeffrey (rd.2)... instead they went Coples and Hill. Its entirely possible that Tannenbaum and Rex could still be here if they took those 2 players instead. and its not even a ridiculous scenario... its the same position and players drafted shortly after they decided they liked these other bums more
Dang, I just posted pretty much the same thing before I even read your post. I thought I was reading my post again and was like damn I know I didn't type that much haha. Crazy.
I like the message this sends to the rest of the team. Also, thanks Rex for another garbage pick that you obviously had your hand in.
here is how i send a message to the team: start williams opposite revis, turm cro into a nickel/dime safety, let cro handle all kick/punt returns. start rielly and maudlin at olb. and yes, start geno at qb. fitz is a backup at best, with no upside. he can't throw accurate passes while injured. not making playoffs anyways, might as well use last 6 games to evaluate geno. btw, the coaching staff also needs to look in the mirror after yesterday's fiasco. why did they wait until the game was almost over to go to the no-huddle offense? did not double team watt? they let a 3rd string, signed-off-the-street qb torch their defense. pathethic! plus, they had 9 days to plan and practice , while texans only had 4.........
