No, that is all youre doing. He has played in a big time program at Ohio State. He isnt some kid who just picked up a football in the offseason. The route running and ball catching ability is something he should of had coming into the pros. I dont think its far fetched for people to be pissed at his lack of being able to do the most basic things receivers should be able to do.
Exactly. I love the kid. And I don't care about his route running or development at this stage of his career. Catch the fucking ball. You've been doing it since 7th grade. Don't blame Fitz. Don't blame missed time. Don't blame injury. Don't blame scheme. Just once. Catch the fucking ball. _
Yup. Let's blame Fitz for not taking advantage of his strengths, let's blame missing time, let's blame the OC for not putting him in position to succeed. Whatever else you can think of to put blame elsewhere. Catch the fucking ball when it's in your hands. _
Most of the time, rookie wideouts do not have great years. They need a couple years of seasoning just like any other position. There will be a standout or two most years, of course. But 2014 was was a freakish anomaly in the proliferation of talented young rookie WRs, and I highly doubt we'll see that many spectacular rookie seasons from a WR class for quite a while. For example, in 2015 there's been Cooper and... not really anyone else consistently performing at a really high level. (At least not that I'm hearing a lot of hype about). THAT SAID You're 100% correct about Smith needing to catch the damn ball. My expectation is he'll get the rest of the regular season and offseason for seasoning. They'll keep putting him in games and giving him chances. And if he keeps not making something out of those chances, he'll be practice squad material by the middle of next year.
Amazing that Stefon Diggs can somehow run routes and catch the fucking ball. How could anyone expect a rookie WR to do that. _
Some do, but most don't. A lot of teams missed on Diggs. It's easy in hindsight to find the ones who catch on at the pro level quicker. But the NFL, and all sports, are full of guys who had quick starts and disappeared for the rest of their careers, it's also full of guys who struggled out of the gate and went on to have All Pro careers. And of course there are tons of players who struggle out of the gate and never find their footing.
One drop, and really if that's the best of your responses just stop, really stop. The drop was bad, but it was one drop. Have a beer, relax.
He alligator armed another ball. If that's the best you've got, just stop. Just stop, keep ignoring how disappointing he's been and keep making excuses for the kid. I like him. He's been incredibly underwhelming this year, a complete disappointment. I've got a nice Malbec going. Thanks for your concern. _
How can you expect that type of production out of a rookie WR? They take a long time to develop and have to relearn how to run routes and catch the ball once they get to the NFL. I think the fields must be different and the ball is bigger than the one they use in college. _
it's a completely unrealistic expectation for a rookie to have three memorable plays this early in the season!
No excuses. He was terrible today and hasnt contributed anything this year. We've just got to hope that he has the strength of character to overcome it.
I'm not ignoring how bad he's been, I've stated he's been bad. But I'm not overblowing it and putting it out of context either.
Yeah but yeah but yeah but he...missed time and ....it takes time and... Fitz can't reach him and....even if Fitz can reach him he can't be expected to catch it because...it takes time and...he missed time. Route running blahblahblah development blahblahblah. _
No you don't. Hill wouldn't even have the body control to track the ball over his shoulder the way Smith did.
Wow Stefon Biggs with a nice crisp route, shakes the defender, goes up to get a high pass, secures it as he's getting pounded by the safety. Not too much to expect. _
