Brandon Weeden isn’t the only player who became a former member of the Cowboys on Tuesday. The team has decided to drop running back Christine Michael from the roster. Michael, like all players cut from teams at this point in the season, will be subject to waivers and will become a free agent if he goes unclaimed. Michael joined the Cowboys in a trade for a conditional draft pick just before the start of the regular season in a move that some saw as a possibility for him to grab a prominent role in a Dallas offense with an uncertain running back rotation. Michael only got 15 carries in five games with Dallas, however, and even the departure of Joseph Randle didn’t do anything to get him an increased workload. Cornerback Corey White has also been cut as the Cowboys shuffle up their roster ahead of Tony Romo’s return to the lineup. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/17/cowboys-part-ways-with-christine-michael/
Curious move. I thought he looked good when he touched the ball, but they barely gave him any carries.
I don't understand what happened to this guy. I think the Jets were interested in him when he was in the draft but Seahawks took him in the 2nd. Couldn't carve out a role behind Lynch and then got dropped for a UDFA in Rawls. With Dallas cutting him and their clear need at RB something's gotta be up, but I would still take a shot at him
It's crazy! He came out of college and looked like a stud. I remember praising the shit out of him in the draft and wishing we would take a gamble with him. Shocked how he's turned out. Tough call though. If he couldn't run with that awesome offensive line in Dallas, Idk what he can do elsewhere
The jets have a need at the RB position, they need an explosive player who can spell Ivory. I hope they give him a chance, sometimes these guys need the right situation to thrive.
I agree. He's worth the shot, absolutely. Just tough to predict. I'd imagine Mac is looking at it. He seems to have a keen eye for talent
To be fair they only gave him 15 carries over the course of 9 games. I guess they decided to cut him becuz he didn't break an 80 yard TD vs a stacked box on one of his 0 to 3 carries per game.
Well I'm assuming Dallas saw something they didn't like in practice. He may have only had 15 carries but I can't imagine there wasn't a reason for that. Especially considering they cut him
We've had some great combos over the years Snell/Boozer, Riggins/Boozer, McNeil/Hector, Jones/Greene but none in a while
that's like the joke with my buddy I watch the games with. Whenever a player doesn't get any touches or targets it must be because he's dropping balls in practice. Whenever he gets a ton of them it must be cuz their kids go to pre school together.
I get you but it just doesn't add up. Christine Michael was a very good prospect coming out of college. Looked like he would be an excellent back that needed some time to adjust to the NFL. He goes to Dallas who lost Demarco Murray to fight for a roster spot. He makes the roster. Dallas loses their primary back and started relying on McFadden, which I still think is a huge mistake given his injury history. All while Michael had gotten 15 carries and now was released. Something doesn't add up here. If Dallas had Murray on the roster still, then yes, this is understandable, but Dallas lost him this past off season. They are in desperate need of a big time back and McFadden is not the answer. So if you have a project in Christine Michael, why release him? Unless you've seen something that none of us know yet. Then again there are many cases where the system produces the player. So maybe the system didn't fit Michael in Dallas. Who knows. Something just seems off
Good points I heard he's a slow learner but that sounds like a rumor. Also heard that he was a fine person and this was not related to anything behind the scenes or personality-wise, who knows if that's true but I suspect it is since they laid out all Joseph Randle's dirty laundry to dry. Dallas has been one of the better teams in recent years when it comes to personnel and drafting but I think they botched their RB situation this year. On one hand Michael got beat out by an UDFA Rawls in the Seahawks camp, on the other he has sick potential and never been given more than a couple touches in a game. Maybe these guys with loads of talent, when they get stuck behind a main carry back just lose their mojo after a few years. Look at Knile Davis.
Out of the past 15 years of combine data on running backs: http://nflcombineresults.com/nflcombinedata.php?year=all&pos=RB&college= Christine Michael: Bench Press (20th) Vertical leap (3rd) Broad Jump (25th) Shuttle (14th) 3-Cone (9th) The only thing that was a bit less impressive was his 40 time, 4.5 So what’s the problem? Wonderlic (4th WORST) He’s having trouble getting along with coaches and learning playbooks. SPARQ score: http://www.fieldgulls.com/seahawks-...ing-the-type-of-athlete-the-seahawks-hunt-for
Both he and Rod Smith missed a practice the week before last for an "Illness". Rod Smith is a long time friend of his who just joined the Cowboys a few weeks back. If I had to make a guess, they showed up to practice hungover or something stupid. I think Michael going back to his home state wasn't a great idea either, he's probably enjoying the night life a bit too much.
Thanks, that would confirm the rumblings about him. When you consider the RB situation in Dallas (and the fact he's already ignoring the heat he's taking for Greg Hardy), I'm surprised Jerry Jones hasn't reached out to Ray Rice yet.
