Man we've been complaining about Pace since 2010 and he continued to decline and then he got a bit better, even had 10 sacks in 2013, and is starting to slow again but he's a smart, solid player and a leader and he pretty much single handedly won us that Jags game by forcing the red zone fumble. There's a lot of players I'd like to chew out but Pace isn't one of them. Maybe we ask a bit too much of him but he's been solid. You know, there's very few players in history that are true Jets. We don't have many players that stick around for long, we're lucky to have a few like Mangold and Harris. Who would've guessed that when we signed Calvin Pace in free agency that he would still be starting for us in 2015? Should we try and improve the position? Of course. Does Calvin Pace impress me? Yes. He's been a stalwart on this defense and there are few plays to point to in the last two or three years where you say, man, if Pace was in position that wouldn't have happened. The man does his job. I want a speedy pass rusher at OLB as much as anyone, hell, I really wanted to bring in Aldon Smith (dumb choice to stay in the Bay btw), but I can't complain about Pace anymore. He should have been out of the league and he's still here making things happen when he can.
Thats surprising cause I dont remember seeing him doing that consistently ever. I guess he just doesnt make enough of an impact for it to register for me.
That's the whole point. He's being asked to do too much. I think most Jets fans would be ok with him playing the run on 1st down or 2nd down. But you don't play him on 3rd down to rush the passer, that's a joke. The guy has NO juice left, he's completely ineffective as an edge rusher at this point. Keep him on the bench, let Mauldin go after the QB. The kid got a pathetic 8 snaps against the Bills with a mobile QB after his breakout performance, when we needed guys out there to put some heat on Taylor. Instead Pace steals all his snaps and can't even get off his block. It's a joke.
I agree, over the years Pace gets far too much criticism here. Is he a superstar? No, but he's mostly been a solid player since he came to the Jets in FA, and that was a good signing. Stalwart indeed. Critics should look elsewhere.
Miles just as good as Pryor? ROFLMAO Cro a backup safety, when he eschews contact and makes a half-assed attempt at a tackle when he does decide to make the effort? Cro a PR? OMG SMH
No team is set at every position. If you tell me every year that our weakest positions will be TE and KR, I'll sign up for that every time (especially with an OC who doesn't use tight ends).
Not me. If a GM can't fix a TE or KR position in a couple of years, he needs to be fired. Those are probably two of the easiest positions to fix. There are almost always TEs in the draft who are excellent blockers. There are also more and more players at the TE position who used to play power forward in basketball and are now playing football and TE instead. They're tall, and/or fast, and have great hands. In every draft, there are small, speedy WRs and RBs, who excel at returning punts and/or kick offs. There is no excuse for not being able to find one after 2 drafts. This year, the Jets had so many holes that were top flight needs, they could't afford to focus on a KR/PR. The one exception was Tyler Lockett. They could have taken him instead of Devin Smith. I think Lockett has just as much potential as a WR as Smith, if not more. I'll give Mac a pass this year due to all of the Jets other pressing needs and the fact that he was a rookie. I fully expect him to find a PR/KR in next year's draft. If not, he takes a hit. If he doesn't have one by the time the 2017 draft is over, then he will deserve a lot of criticism, and if he has also failed to find a QB, or stud pass-rushing OLB, or fix the OL by then, then he may not be the right man for the job. At this point, I have every confidence that he will accomplish those things and will build a winner. Next year's draft will tell a lot.
Yea well you kinda missed my point. If the biggest knock against your team is the kick returner, in an age where kick returns are almost non existent, then your team is probably in good shape. Mac addressed and upgraded the entire secondary, qb, and wr positions in the offseason. If he overlooked the kick returner, I'm willing to forgive him (even though Owusus was good, he just got injured).
Bowles also made the decision that Geno Smith was the opening day starter before a single minute of training camp. That is the biggest red-flag, im my opinion.
No, it really didn't. Going into a season with Geno Smith as your declared starter never makes sense - unless you're intentionally trying to tank or your boss/GM says you don't have a say in the matter.
Who else was going to start? Bryce Petty? A 4th round QB coming off the spread? Who else was available in FA?
You've missed the point entirely. If you as a GM/HC combination cannot find someone who is at least capable of competing with Geno Smith for a starting job, you have failed. Period.
You have no point at all. You are just bitching because they named Geno the starter prior to the IK incident. Now answer the question - who else would've been available to start for the NYJs this season? Fitz had a broken leg and Petty was a 4th round QB coming off the spread. Fitz is easily capable of competing with Geno Smith.
Our HC/GM are perfect for our franchise. Shucks they follow Tanny, Herm, Mangini, Rex so they fit perfect into our team
Ur peeing in wind as Bowles cannot see the forest from the trees. IMHO he is gonzo in the latest 3 years & maybe even earlier (which I hope for). You either got it or you do not & TB falls on the negative side of that statement
