Bullshit, there has been a very strong contingent championing Fitz as being a very capable starter and that his performance this year would be much better than years past because this was the best team he's ever been on. There was a line ready to suck him off and another to fondle his balls after the Colts game by a large amount of this board who were looking at our record and not his actual play. It doesn't please me to be right about Fitz. But he is the same QB we saw in Buffalo and mocked, but that wasn't the narrative being spewed around these parts.
Not surprised at some of the attacks. Fitz, the mediocre journeyman QB that has been ditched by 3 different sadsack franchises in the last few years, has somehow found his way to a fanatical group of Jet fans that blindly defend everything he does. It's remarkable. He's not having a bad season for us, but he isn't an answer long-term, and he was mostly terrible last night. 16 games of Fitz is about to make this a lost season for the Jets, not through his own fault, but simply because we have stagnated at the game's most important position with no solution for 2016 and will not be in any sort of position to get an elite QB prospect in next year's draft. Such is the state of the team right now. That said, I saw one Bills fan defending Taylor's play last night and I can't let that pass. He is AWFUL. Like what else did you need to see last night to let you know that he is an athlete/RB trying to play QB? The guy just cannot play the position and the Bills are in the same shape as we are going forward.
The OP is right. Not sure why he had to go so grandiose about it, but he's still right. Fitz has done this several times in his career (Start out the season great, then fade). Bills fans defended him too - Until he was cut.
Exactly. At least we know we don't have the answer at QB. Bills fans are so desperate, they believe Taylor is good.
I don't think anyone ever claimed Fitz to be Tom Brady like you are claiming. Fitz is an average to slightly above average QB just like we thought a few weeks ago.
It could just be luck. Like 3 years ago in Geno's rookie year where the Jets won a bunch of close nail biters. But then things normalized and the Jets were proven to be just mediocre and Geno was trash.
The thing I dont understand is while Fitz wasnt great last night, he certainly wasnt the cause for the Jets loss. That falls on too many turnovers, too many drops of catchable balls, and play calls that were suspect.
I thought he played alright most of the night. It felt he like rarely made any bad choices, but our WR's made a lot of drops as well. The worse he got was on the opening drive which had nothing to it. His only picks were the kind find are hard to blame a QB for, off the hands of a receiver and on a late game desperation pass.
Exactly. Sadly, this fan base is so jaded by such horrendous QB play since the first half of the season that Favre was under center that we're actually happy, for the most part, with Fitz's play so far. Pennington is the last QB that we've had where I didn't think that almost every single week the team was behind the 8-ball at the most important position on the field...
Desperation to an extent, but do I really need to sit here and list out starting QBs since Kelly with the exception of Bledsoe who were sub par? The idea is ground and pound. The argument isnt if its a viable way to win because thats a moot point as you need to play with the cards you're delt and franchise QBs dont grow on trees. The reality is, he's a game manager who offers another dimension with his legs and has a hell out a deep ball. So far, he's everything you look for in a game manager. He's smart with the ball, rarely throws picks, has good accuracy, and makes good quick and concise desicions with what to do with the ball. He's also shown he is more than Capt. Checkdown, or a Checkdown Charlie. If you cant have a franchise guy who can put the team on their backs, this is the next best thing. Its still early on in his career, but last night was the best D he has yet to play and in the end his stats were better than another excellent game manager (difference being Fitz has a penchant for his gunslinger attitude w/o/the GS arm) . Outside of not having the speed (as fitzy is good for a scramble as evidenced by last nights game) the difference is the ball protection. In the end, that may have ended up being the difference. So, yes.. we are excited. Even if for no other reason that its nice to have someone that wont hand away the game and actually has the ability to keep us in it if the running game is functioning. He didnt show it last night, but if needed and ALLOWED to (its pretty obvious we were in hang on and protect the lead mode for the 2nd half) dude can sling it. Like Geno and Fitz are night and day, so is Tyrod and every other QB we've trotted out under center for the last decade. No shame in being excited for that
One knock on Fitz I think is wrong and that's the issue of Arm Strength. I saw him launch several deep throws covering more than 50yds in the air. The issue is his accuracy since it doesn't matter how long the throw is but if its complete or not. Other than that, I see nothing in the Fitz/Gailey tandem to make me think anything special is going to happen this year with this team. 8-8 and a long winter to stew.
I admit, I was AMAZED with that one long toss. I dont mean it as a knock because it just wasnt his game, but like I mentioned in another thread during his time in Buffalo anything over 25yrds was simply a waste of a down. His ball went straight up (like out of the view on the tv up) and would either fall harmlessly to the ground out of bounds or it was under thrown and picked. I have no issue saying I was impressed with that throw... even though it fell incomplete. I dunno.. sometimes things change, people improve, situations change etc... but much in the same way Jets fans saw the Bills hiring of Rex a mistake and another futile act of mediocrity I feel thats why Bills fans maybe didnt take the Jets offense very seriously... the same reason in that its a tandem of a tried, tested, and true combo of just not cutting it. We said before the game Rex will be Rex (he was, and it almost cost him) as Fitz and Chan will be Fitz and Chan. I did find it interesting on the broadcast that said this was an offense that was conceived with the two in Buffalo and how much better it is now as they've gotten it to be very much improved.
Buffalo is a very talented team but they're badly underachieving and that's on REX. Their dline is stacked but hardly putting up numbers. Watkins has practically been neutered. I feel for the guy. Guy was drafted ahead of OBJ for a reason. Rex was the worst thing that could've possibly happened to Watkins. I hope he leaves when his contract is over.
I agree. Despite a fumbled kickoff returned for a TD, an Ivory fumble on our side of the field, a pass right through Marshall's hands for an INT, Fitz rallied the troops, made some huge plays and had us in a position to win. Fitz didn't play lights out, but this loss was not on him. If our key offensive players would've stepped up, we win this game. Better playcalling wouldn't have hurt either.
I'm still disagreeing with the 8-8 because the Jet's schedule is fairly weak moving forward. It's possible that's where we wind up but I think a win or two more than that is fairly likely also. Seeing Ivory back and running well last night was a big positive in what was otherwise a lost opportunity.
Most people seem to be coming around to not judging the D on sacks. For better or worse, the fan base trusts him and at this point dont feel as though he's given us a reason not to. From an outsiders perspective however I can certainly see and even agree with this point if trying to view it from another perspective. The Watkins thing... I dont think thas really true. Rex has NOTHING to do with the offensive side of the ball. The kids been hurt, came back and had a break out game. Had he have caught that 1st ball the stat line for him is totally different. Even though he didnt have that big long catch, he still won many of his battles and aside from his drop came up big when we needed him. If anything, I'd say Rex promotes his best player getting the ball as much as possible. The only way that argument makes sense TO ME, is if you are saying being in a offensive system thats self proclaimed "ground and pound" could be detrimental to his stats..
