not kid gloves, but you dont think youre over-reacting a bit by wanting to cut a kid you invested a 2nd rounder in? He made a bone-head play, no doubt, but that doesn't warrant a cut. Again going back to the Ivory fumble, he was plowing through the line holding the ball with 1 hand and it got pulled out. Isn't that a fundamental football mistake? A RB in traffic should cover the ball with 2 hands, correct? Why aren't you crucifying him?
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2009101811/2009/REG6/bills@jets#menu=gameinfo|contentId:09000d5d81397a41&tab=recap Sanchez threw 5 INT's. 1 was in OT to give the Bills the ball to kick a FG and win. He directly costed us the game. Thomas Jones ran for 200 yards. By your logic Sanchez should have been cut week 6 his rookie year if not before.
No. You are the one being idiotic. You are arguing that we cut a top 40 drafted player because he made one mistake, but don't seem willing to admit that under that logic, we should get rid of just about everyone else too. That has never been done in the history of the NFL and there are far more glaring examples of "fundamental" rookie mistakes than this one. You don't just give up on assets unless and until you are sure that they cannot help your team. This cut him/fire him attitude is the reason we can't develop talent. Kenbrell Thompkins isn't the answer.
Again, if you can't tell the difference between the Ivory Fumble and this: I really don't know what to say to you. BTW, since we are having a "consistent argument" discussion, you want to coddle Devin Smith, but you have no problem crucifying Demario Davis? Are YOU being consistent?
Again, I would need to review the details of each INT to determine if they were caused by fundamental football blunders or there were legitimate defensive actions taken to cause them. Since I do not recall the plays, I am banking on the former, but if you coudl produce the video, I would be happy to give my opinion. What defensive play caused this fumble?
Whos coddling? All I'm doing is proving you wrong. I said you don't cut young talent bc of 1 turnover. Davis has made the same mistakes over and over again. There's a difference. And if i dont understand the difference PLEASE spell it out for me and show me the diffference
So your answer is to keep him on the squad so he can REALLY do some damage like Gholston, Robertson, and Wilson?
Actually, you made a brilliant case for Demario Davis, in that thread, and you swayed me to your point of view (and I swear I am not being sarcastic). You don't see enough evidence int he photo I provided to see my point of view?
FYI as per Brian Lewis of the NY Post - Smith had just 13 career kickoff returns at Ohio State — and only one in his final two years and none last season. Great move, Bowles.
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000578920/Bills-Bacarri-Rambo-recovers-fumble The photo you posted of Smith shows him with the ball tucked correctly. The fumble occured when he was going to the ground it came away from the body and got punched out. Totally inexcusable, I agree. But you don't cut a guy for that. Thats all I'm saying.
He has sucked pretty bad, that being said it's still too early to write him off. If he still sucks this bad this year then cut him and move on, we don't need another Stephen Hill hanging around for far longer than necessary.
You gotta give him AT LEAST next year to prove he belongs. If next year coems and goes and he can't crack into the top 4 WR spot you cut him. Also let me be clear. I DO NOT think our WR corps is set by any means. I think we still need to draft young outside talent. I personally wanted Jalen Strong or DGB in round 2. I thought D Smiths stock rose solely bc of his performance in the CFB Playoffs. I'm not exactly sold on Smith, but you don't quit on a player after 8 games of their rookie year.
lmao...I've called Devin Smith a pussy plenty of times since we drafted him, but to say he should be cut is just retarded.
Look, you guys can trash me all you want, I don't care. But this guy fits the select mold of players I have trashed in the past, and there really have not been that many. They are Dewayne Robertson, Kyle Wilson, and Walter Powell. This guy ranks right up there with them. If I had my say, I would cut the guy TODAY. That being said, I am NOT nyjunc. If I am wrong, and he turns into something special, I will absolutely man up, and eat my heaping plate of crow. That being said, I see the same lack of fundamental football that those other three have in Devin Smith. Get him out of here before he REALLY hurts this team.
