It's week 9 of his first season and your already calling for the GM's head? And not just that, but claiming that we'd be better off with Idzik as the GM? You shouldn't be allowed to walk freely through life without special care nurses, let alone post on this forum.
In this current NFL universe, you can rebuild as much and as long as you want in any market but it won't mean anything unless you land that franchise QB. If in his 2 years, Idzik was able to land this team our QB of the future a lot of his many sins would have been forgiven.
It's amazing how after 1 loss to the Pats and 1 bad game against Oakland, people are claiming collapse and Mac was a mistake. I firmly believe Jets fans are a big reason why this team never wins it all. We are so bi-polar, and in turn the media feeds us what we react to and it puts pressure on the team. Everyone, please calm the hell down.
True. We don't play another team with a winning record until week 16 (Pats at home). Let's see how things shake out during this stretch before we start firing and cutting everybody.
I mean seriously. We are 4 - 3 for pete sake. Can we get through a season and not get all psychotic when we hit a 2 game rough patch, with 1 loss coming to the best team in the NFL and the other coming to a hot up and coming team in which we featured Geno Smith?
Trust me i know. I've always been very supportive of Carr and Bortles...so when the jets arent on i tend to watch them 2 play on my sunday ticket. They are both going to be top teams in the near future wheter people like to admit it or not. Shit load of cap space and young studs at QB.
A lot of you are misinterpreting what I said, implying that once the Jets win a few games, everything will be alright. Read my original post carefully, I said I think there is a pretty good chance they make the playoffs this year. That's not the point. The point is, the only reason they make the playoffs is because of how easy the schedule is. Once there, they will get nowhere because it's just not an elite team by any means. So they will be stuck in the same no-man's land, between bad enough to get an elite qb/truly rebvuild and good enough to actually compete for the whole thing. And that's why I made the comparison to the Knicks.
If Fitz has a great game Sunday and we only miss 10 tackles instead of 19 this Board will return to equalibrium Idzik was the moron who got Geno, bet on Geno instead of engineering a Carr or Bridgewater for us during that draft Yes Pryor has worked out and a couple of others but Mac is a great hire. Most of his picks are gonna be solid Mac also got us The Beard who everyone prayed to start this weekend
I feel you Dog. Here's what I said two days ago. Someone said that the Mets were able to develop young talent, but they have the luxury of a farm system so I don't see how they are comparable. We lack the patience to tolerate youth mistakes and are far too quick to give up on young players, and because of this, I think we would be better served not using high picks to draft QBs. There's too much pressure here and I think we would be better served with veterans in that role. As for the rest of the roster, I think we will continue to trade the opportunity for "the next Revis" for the real thing.
Patrick Ewing would probably be a clutch pickup on the field goal block unit. Bring John Starks into the game in the 4th quarter too.
Idzik was a good fire and Maccagnan was a good hire. My only gripe (so far) is Mohammad Wilkerson, our best player, is on the cusp of possibly leaving the Jets while Cromartie is giving up 88% of passes thrown his way. With all the 'money' Macc had to blow through it's too bad Mo ain't locked up with Cro looking for a team.
This is completely idiotic. The problem with the Knicks was they made terrible trades and locked up old and unproven players for years and years, condemning themselves to salary cap hell. The Jets didn't trade away a bunch of picks, had tons of cap room this year, signed a lot of short-term rather then long-term contracts, and are fine cap-wise going forward, there is absolutely no comparison to make to the Knicks.
I don't see the similarities. Even if we were as bad off as the Knicks were, NFL contracts aren't guaranteed and you achieve enough roster mobility through draft picks and trades to survive. Now if we'd have had Idzik through this Offseason? Then we'd be f-cked!
It's not just Jets fans, it's all fans in all sports. Some fans just like to overreact whether it's to success or failure. Also, I wouldn't put too much stock into what some people on message boards say. Message board members don't even count as 1% of a team's real fan base
I think we all have to be realistic about this season and what Mac did vs. what Idzik did...Idzik confused football w/ baseball...In baseball winning is cyclical, if you tear it down and build it back up your team can thrive for 3-5 years during that cycle (more if you're a big market team) but it takes a tearing down or "retooling" as the folks who are scared to use the word "rebuilding" like to say...Football is different...I'll be the first to admit that at the very start I liked what Idzik brought to the table, calm, professional, business like approach...it wasn't until year 2 and that horrible draft (when he had 11 picks and couldn't make one trade despite knowing you couldn't possibly sign/keep all of those players) that i realized the guy has no real approach or enough talent recognition to make a deal or significant FA signing...But the real crime is that Idzik couldn't figure out how to spend money in the present w/out committing it long term, and thus had $50m in reserve that did the team no good under his command...Football is so much more "year to year" than baseball due to the non-guarenteed contracts, cutting of talented players who make too much, and of course injuries...Idzik, really had no clue in my opinion... What I think Mac is doing is that, to quote Bill Parcells, he got a bunch of "Hold the Fort" guys and has brought in enough talent this year to put a competitive product on the field to appease the masses...after all, I'm pretty happy that we're into November at 5-3 which almost assures the Jets of playing meaningful football games into December...and when was the last time we could say that...all the while, he's going to scout/draft the Jets back into contention in the out years and build the talent base back to where the team can win consistently w/ younger players...I mean let's get serious here, and I love the guy for what he's doing, but how much can we really expect from Fitz at QB...Playoff's? If he's playing his absolute very best (which he is now) possibly...AFC Championship game, no...Super Bowl, um, no...So, this year was about drafting well, spending the reserve to put a competitive product on the field and build back the fan base while not killing the cap long term (look at how Mac spent the money for the most part, it's not going to kill them at all) and try and have a winning season...Next year I'm sure we'll see some of those FA's gone, one more year of excellent scouting/drafting, one more year of developing Petty and then try to put another competitive product on the field...I'm guessing by year 3 we'll have enough young talent (i'm a believer in Mac's scouting acumen, and due to that also in the folks he's hired) and hopefully a QB in petty/other that can take us deep in the playoffs...Anyway, just a thought, but again, Idzik could never grasp how to spend for the present w/out taxing the future and had no talent recognition skills to know when to pull the trigger on a player...so he basically abstained from FA... i think Mac can do both and has shown that so far, which is great for us!
