And all of those stats include quarterbacks who have played significantly less downs, including Geno Smith who is above him in rating.

    Lmao

    Moron is a moron

Bowles sounded so depressed on his conference call.. that signals to me that Geno will be trotting out there Sunday..

Truth be told, if its a pain tolerance issue than Ryan got to pull this through. Its his left hand what does he use it for anyways (i know handoffs and snaps but still!)

I agree with you, but yesterday he came back in the game for a play and looked ok. I think he'll be ok by Sunday

Yeah you're right, RG3 is so much better than all of these guys combined!!

You think we could pull off a trade for him?! Guy would be our savior!

The problem with this team historically is mishandling of the QB position. No matter if we start Petty, Flynn or whoever (I thought Josh Johnson was with a team now but maybe I'm wrong) we aren't making any noise this year.

I don't like the idea of Geno starting another game for this team ever, and Fitz will probably come in for a few games with a bunch of shit wrapped around his thumb and he'll probably fumble snaps and play below average.

That's not a reason to take your project players and ruin them. That shows impatience and desperation, and if it happened I'd think that maybe we made the wrong decision at HC. We weren't making any real noise this season, and now we definitely aren't.

Too many people bought into the media's fairy tale storyline over the past few weeks and all they were doing was setting you up for the knockout punch. Don't be that guy.

Let Petty sit. He's probably not the guy, but if he can be, the worst thing you can do is throw him to the wolves with an injured or backup center, two injured starting receivers, an injured starting RB, and a defense that isn't playing up to their potential.

He obviously wasn't comfortable or confident enough to stay in. They have to get him to the point where he is "all in". Otherwise, putting him back in will be a disaster.

QBR is stupid. I hate when people cite it and I wish it would fucking explode. Geno Smith's QBR was 66 yesterday, 16 points above the standardized average and top 10 in the league for the week. Go ESPN!

Yesterday he came back in for 2 or 3 plays, then when Geno came back in they showed Fitz on the sideline and he acted like his thumb got chewed off by a rabid dog.

QBR is fucking worthless, and so is any argument that cites it.

Fitz was playing fine before he got hurt, but any metric that has him 4th best in the league and 1 spot above Tom Brady is a joke

Only the jets could have both their qb's willingly hurt themselves in the same game.

True I mean I'm a huge Petty supporter. Outside Mariota and Winston I thought he was the best QB in the draft. I'm ecstatic we have him. I'm by no means advocating starting him for a stretch, just one game where we could be without Fitz or Geno. I honestly don't think it would hurt. However, I didn't take into account Mangold not playing and the injuries at WR that may still be there. If its an emergency and we don't have anyone else I don't think it would hurt. While its not necessary it gives him playing time in a game that is a wash anyway. Obviously we don't want to set him up to fail but see what he can do. As long as he's not atrocious I think its no worse for the wear. Ideally though he should sit for the rest of this season and probably next at a minimum.

Geno didn't willingly hurt himself, he was just too slow witted to see it coming.

If I had to guess I'd say that the optimism on Fitzpatrick is due to the Jets not wanting to talk turkey with other teams through the deadline tomorrow with the certain knowledge that Geno is the alternative.

I can't believe that Fitzpatrick can actually play QB with ligament damage in his left thumb. He takes 50+ snaps a game and hands it off 25 times and his left thumb is in every one of those plays. Not to mention how is he going to secure the football when he goes to the ground with only one hand to work with?

if you are confident that Fitzpatrick could come back in a week or 2 then you start Petty for Jags
If it looks like Fitz gonna need that surgery sooner than later.. then start Ge... fuck it start Petty

Yeah he grabbed his thumb right away, despite making one decent throw and the other for an incompletion.

I like Petty a lot. I live in Texas and watch a lot of local football, and he was a very fun player. But I know the reality of that team, I don't want him going down the same road as Griffin. He should sit for at least a year and a half, probably more. He's got the intangibles, but he needs more of the fundamentals that make a starting QB in the NFL.

This is probably a strange analogy, but I'll use it anyway. I'm also a SA Spurs fan. That team will find players with the right personality and the right intangibles and needed physical skills, and they will babystep that player into the system to the point where you are wondering if they will ever really be a player for them. Then, as if overnight, that player will get the minutes increased and they will seamlessly transition into the team like a proven veteran.

There's something to be said for a patient and methodical approach.

It's going to depend on whether or not Fitz can take a snap from under center. I don't think Ivory would be that effective if he had to run from shotgun the whole game because of the QB.
