It happens to be a funny time in the NFL
A few no doubt "Franchise QBs" are struggling with their teams
You could tell from the way Bowles finished out the game that he has no interest in watching the Geno Smith massacre for the remainder of the season..

Some guys on the rocks (not saying I want them all)
    Kaepernick
    Bradford
    Stafford
    Cutler

any of these acquisitions would be interesting.
Its a hard time only because this expedited our quarterback search that was sure to happen this offseason

doesnt look good for fitz return if this is the case. glad to see the team knows we arent making the playoffs with geno at qb. thats a silver lining i guess. hopefully we can find an average qb to replace fitz

I wouldn't say never. The Lions are in position to go get a new franchise QB in the draft, and they desperately need a force in the D-Line. So this would make some sense for them. Stafford isn't exactly the kind of guy Chan has a lot of experience with in the past, big guy with a laser arm who stretches the field and sits in the pocket. But I'm sure he'd be stoked to have him and I'm sure he'd do well here. One thing that would bother me a little with Stafford is his inability to stay healthy. Seems like every 2-3 weeks he's got some nagging shoulder issues / injury, he's had this issue forever. I'd still do it of course but I also doubt it'll happen.

everyone knows the defense as the main reason we lost the game. but everyone is also pretty confident our defense will get it corrected and continue to be a good unit all year.

i dont think anyone is confident geno will cut out the dumb geno stuff he does like take sacks and keep the clock running instead of throwing the ball away and stopping the clock. throwing brutal hero ball picks into double coverage, and generally not being aware of whats going on around him.

thats why people are hammering geno and not the defense. not because of what happened in the raiders game, but because the future with this D is going to be ok but the future with geno is going to cost us a chance at making the playoffs

when was the last time fitz rolled out of the pocket and took a sack and kept the clock running late in a game instead of throwing it out of bounds?

fitz mistakes are more physical. he doesnt have the arm strength to make tight throws. he makes some wrong reads, forces it at times. but that happens to every qb. the stuff people get on geno for are the things that are 100% avoidable, like throwing it away isntead of taking a sack. getting out of bounds to stop the clock instead of taking a tackle in bounds or throwing it away, etc.

people are calling geno dumb cause he is black and fitz smart cause he is white.

people are calling geno dumb because he consistently does dumb things on and off the field. and call fitz smart because he is a harvard educated qb who doesnt consistently do dumb things on and off the field.

I'd trade for Stafford right now.

If we are playing the fantasy game of QB trades, let's go with Brady, or Luck.

He's a human pinata this year. It's hard to judge when he can't trust the O line to protect him for more than 1-2 seconds.

Fwiw, if Joe Thomas is really available in trade I'd swap D'brick and a draft pick for him in a heartbeat. Clev can dump him and avoid a huge cap hit. Not sure how it would work given Jets cap situation but they need to start considering options on O line as well.

OMG, they would have to include a first for us to take him and his contract off their hands. Maybe 3 firsts just like they gave up to get him.

    It's unlikely. Far from fantasy.

I get what you're saying. The problem for me is that while all QBs make mistakes, Geno makes a LOT of stupid mistakes. Do you remember when he tried to shuffle the ball behind his back!? What QB would do that?

Now consider the INTs stat thru six games. Okay, good point. And how many TDs did each throw in those games? And how many wins? How much offense did the team generate under Geno versus Fitz? Put those stats into perspective. A QB that throws more is going to throw more INTs. An extreme example would be Montana and Chris Simms. Simms has thrown fewer INTs than Joe Montana but that doesn't mean jack shit, right? So what is the INT rate?

Whenever Geno is in the game the offense sputters. That much is hard to argue against. He isn't very accurate, he doesn't have a high football IQ, he isn't dynamic, etc. none of this has to do with him being black (although I am sure that there are many closeted racists here and elsewhere who enjoy a legit opportunity to jump on someone they don't like*). Hell, I am sure most Jets fans--the overwhelming majority--would give their collective left nut for a young Doug Williams, or even a Donovan McNabb or Randall Cunnigham. Beggars can't be choosers, right?

*- as an aside, I think people are fooling themselves if they think prejudice doesn't go both ways. I'll leave it at that.

Yea, but who is gonna play QB? I'm not volunteering. Our QBs are dropping like flies and I wanna live.....

Oh, and it is truly important to not throw Petty to the wolves and ruin yet another QB. If the season is going down there is no reason to ruin a potential part of our future to save a doomed season.

Agreed, but plug any one of the "career QB2's" that are milling around the league into the roster and the season is definitely going down. We still have a pulse at 4-3, I'd rather not go 4-12/5-11. Expecting Flynn, Johnson etc to guide us to a wild-card spot is over-optimistic - lets not go full Brandon Weeden on this.

None of these guys is going to get the Jets where they want to go. Other than Kaepernick, the rest are already on teams just about as good as the Jets yet going nowhere.

    Stafford's not the answer.
He's certainly better than what we have here but I'm not sure this is the time to sell the farm and even If I was sure I wouldn't sell the farm for him. You could probably get him for cheap in a year or two anyway. He would not do well in NY

Time to let the coaches make the call. They know their stuff much better than you or I. I think Geno will do well with proper coaching, you don't. Let's see what happens.

Question...... Assuming we just need a back up till Fitz is ready, why not just sign Flynn? I feel like trading for a qb is stupid if we only need him for 2-4 weeks
