Quigley definitely sucks and the short kick from Folk was annoying, but the coverage teams had a good day with Lattimore and Mauldin back. The onsides was just a good kick by the Wash kicker. The blocking on the punt team is horrendous, but that's going on with a lot of teams, not sure why.
I don't think Bowles emphasized teams at all this last training camp. With practices cut down to practically nothing and with a new HC/Playbook coming in, Teams was last man on the totem pole. Westcoff said he was at camp for a week and never say one single Teams practice. Bowles has to go!
I still can't believe we cut our punter a few years ago in favor of Quigley. What was his name, Malone?
Punting the ball has never been a Jets strong point. However, that should get fixed. Giving Brady a short field even with a top D had adverse consequences in yesterday's game. Makes one wonder if they even tried out Weatherford before they signed him. Jets have a pretty good FG kicker, so that's not a problem. In my opinion the most important thing special teams needs to do is cover kicks and the Jets seem to do that reasonably well with the exception of the Sproles return. But it's not like Sproles is some unknown guy who burned the Jets. He's been doing that to a lot of teams for almost 10 years. It was nice when the Jets had L. Washington, J. Miller and B. Smith returning kicks. Then, it was important because the Jets haven't had great players at QB. A good return could almost always result in at least three points. Kerley is not a great returner but he doesn't turn the ball over and that's important. In the Giant game, a muffed punt cost the Cowboys a chance to tie the game at the end. For the great QB's it doesn't matter where they start drives and that's the real answer to the problem of winning football games. You need to have a QB who can consistently move an offense down the field. We can't be happy with the mediocrity we have at that position. The Jets need to make drafting a top echelon QB prospect a priority. Having a great QB cures a lot of problems on a football team.
