I don't get it either. At this point, the Jets should be auditioning punters night and day until they can find a guy who can consistently punt into the opponent's territory. Grab an UDFA, a guy from the CFL, I don't give a shit just ANYBODY at this point. There are guys in Division II programs that can kick the ball farther than Weatherford and Quigley can.
Also factor in the he has worked with purdum and folk before as a holder... But yes, you're right, that fucker admitted he only kicked 3 times since December, and the last time was with is kid in a park?????

They obviously like Quigley, who isn't anything special but I wouldn't say he's bad...just inconsistent. Can't get mad about the Weatherford situation though, Quigley got the weird shin infection on Saturday...there was no time to work out any other punters.
But WHY? It's not like a QB who needs decent receivers to be successful. Assuming there is decent blocking, why would a punt be different on the college level then in the pros?!?!

I honestly can't answer this. I don't follow college football and I find it a strange problem for an NFL team to have. Especially when you consider to popularity of the sport. I'd even be willing to wager there are plenty of people with zero football experience that are proficient or even phenomenon kickers waiting to be discovered.

No Aussie kickers, I'm still having nightmares about the guy at Michigan who fumbled away the game vs Michigan State. There are lots of good kickers and punters in the US. It's the only position where All-Pros are routinely walk-on guys in college who then were UDFA's after the draft. The Jets just need to find one. It would be like job 1 for me with this team right now. With this defense you want to make the other team go 80 yards for a score on every drive.
Weatherford had said he only punted a handful of times within the past few weeks; the latest being Saturday with his 7 year old son .
