I know you all are thinking it and I am just going to go ahead and address it. Where the fuck was the pass rush on Sunday? Cousins had all day to throw with Josh LeRibeus at C and Ty Nseshke at LT. Also playing on that line was rookie Brandon Scherff and second year guy Morgan Moses. I honestly thought we would have at least 4 sacks on Sunday especially after we were in Tannehill's face all game 2 weeks ago. Maybe they were just having an off day but the Skins line kept them in check the majority of the game. Not too concerned yet but it is something to think about going into New England on Sunday. We all know the only way to beat Brady is to put him on his ass. I don't care who you have in the secondary, if we don't pressure Brady all day, he is going to put on a clinic. Thoughts?
That offense is designed to be 3 steps drops and hit the receiver. He threw for under 200, and they rushed for less than a 100. So please, sacks don't equal a good defense. The most concerning thing coming off that game in my mind is the health of Chris Ivory. We lose him, and the offense is really one dimensional.
It didn't look like we blitzed nearly as much this week, opting instead to play 4 man fronts which stifled the Redskins strength - their running game. Why worry about the pass rush when the opponent's passing game was not a factor? I have no concern.
We haven't faced a QB in the same stratosphere this year as Brady. McCown/Manziel Luck Bradford Tannehill Cousins
I thought the pass rush from the D-Line was decent. One guy we were missing was Skrine who has become the key guy in blitz packages for us this season. And it didn't look like Harris & Demario were blitzing much either. Add in the fact that Cousins gets rid of the ball really quick, all that would explain the low sack total or the lack of pass rush. I'm not worried. Sheldon and Mo were in Cousins face all day it seemed, they forced at least a handful of incompletions.
It's already been mentioned in 10 other threads but yeah if we give Brady that much time he will throw 10 TDs against us.
I saw someone mention it in another thread and I noticed it as well, there were so many times where only two or 3 guys went out on a route for Washington. They were max protecting the entire game.
'Pass rush' does not always = sacks. Cousins was hurried and hit and the defensive line did penetrate into the back filed regularly as evidenced by the stingy rushing yards allowed. For the love of humanity, can we please just be happy with the mauling defensive line we have and not be so concerned with sack totals? There are about 31 other teams that would love our defensive line and probably our defense as a whole right now.
Bowles said his primary objective was to shut down the run game. They did that. Adding in that the skins were going quick release, and did not pass the ball effectively, the single stat of no sacks is not that significant.
We will be at a huge disadvantage if Skrine can't play and it's a good chance he can't. Most of the passes Brady completes are to receivers coming out of the slot and we will have McDougle there most likely this week.
If we are down Skrine and Williams... goodnight. The pass rush won't matter. They'll be throwing short passes to Edelman, Amendola and Lewis all day long. I pray they stick Revis on Edelman although Cro on Amendola isn't exactly appealing.
