Well, the Lions are the only potential #1 pick that already has a QB and might be willing to trade their #1 pick next year to acquire a good young player. There's no way they (or anybody else) is making that trade come next year if Goff really looks like a #1 overall pick. They'll only trade the pick to try to salvage this year and they won't do that at 0-7 or whatever. 1-5 in a couple of weeks and hope they keep losing. If the Jets can't sign Mo he's here for 1 more year tops. Then he's going somewhere else for a lot less than a 1st round pick with the potential to be the #1. Obviously nobody but Mo and the Jets know why the negotiations have dragged on for two years now. They're the ones who already know whether Mo will be a Jet in 2017 or not and why that is. If the Jets really can't commit to a $12M a year deal then it's on them. If Mo wants a lot more than that, well that's on him and we might as well just get it over with while we have leverage on a trade. I love Mo but we've got a gazillion good to excellent defensive linemen right now and I root for the laundry first.
Well, we have two, not a gazillion Sure we trade him if negotiations stall again in the offseason but I'm not trading him before then. I think this thing gets done and we look at QB again somewhere in the middle rounds. But I don't see Mo involved in any trade for the time being. One of our two DLs just returned from a suspension for doing some stupid shit. What looks like a position of depth can disappear pretty quickly. But unlike your namesake (Bradway), Tanneanbaum or Idzik, I trust that Maccagnan will do the right thing. I suppose this is a good problem to have.
We have 3. Mo, Richardson and Williams. Then we have Snacks who could play more but doesn't because the defense is so tough to run against on 1st and 2nd down. Then we have some of the best depth in the NFL because Rex knows defensive line talent when he sees it. It's going to come down to the Jets budget against the cap for the unit. Revis is not the appropriate comparison for any number of reasons that we have forgotten in the fog of battle over the last two years. He was coming off of a major knee surgery in 2013 that cost him most of the 2012 season and was still looking for a record-breaking contract, one that the team who acquired him quickly abandoned despite giving up a high 1st round pick plus for it. He wasn't at a position of great depth for the Jets. He was a better CB (J.J. Watt level) when healthy than Mo is a defensive lineman. If the question is really about whether or not to give Mo a Watt/Revis deal or let him go the answer is obvious and we're all just jerking ourselves around here talking about it. We also forget that Mac had Watt in Houston. He's been in the room for a lot of conversations about what a player like that is worth. He's most likely not even going to be entertaining the idea that Mo might be worth a similar deal. This would explain why Mo and his reps are so annoyed at this point. They can't even get a hearing on their terms.
If Mo makes a mistake, it does not usually lead to a long cheap TD. There are lots of guys who do most of what Mo does. I think a coach can work with that. They may not be as good but they will serve. What Mo needs to do to put himself over the top in the eyes of NFL watchers (not Jet fans, of course) is put the QB on his ass. A lot.
Saw the game, like 2 of them were actually his fault. He made a lot of big boy throws that game though and didn't look like he lost much confidence as he kept throwing the football. Gotta give credit to that Utah Defense, they are extremely solid.
Suprised to see you like Goff, considering your opinion on spread QBS! But yeah the game snowballed on him and he wasn't very good, but he showed some good pocket presence and ability to play in tight pockets.
I said two and what I meant was other than Wilkerson. No one knows if Snacks is back next season and Richardson is a risk because he has off-field issues. I understand trading Wilkerson before he leaves for nothing - but no one's giving us a pick high enough to get a QB. Top picks are cap-friendly and Wilkerson will cost some team a shitload of money.
I saw about half the game, and was not impressed with Goff. He's big, but a little on the thin side, looks to have slow feet and not be very athletic. His arm looked pretty good, but not consensus #1 good imo. I think more of the picks were his fault than just 2. I think only 1, maybe 2 were not his fault. His ball placement needs improving as does his decision making. I like Petty's potential more than what I saw from Goff on Saturday night.
Was that posted in the first 10 minutes of the game. I saw the game from about midway through the 2nd quarter until midway through the 4th when I got bored and changed the channel. Maybe it was just a bad game, but Goff didn't impress me at all. He had 4 interceptions by halftime.
Not sure what you are talking about. That post was on a Tuesday and Kevin Hogan plays for Stanford and Goff played against Utah on Saturday.
He's a good prospect, he can definitely make all of the throws on the field, very accurate down the field passing. There are some cons, but all QBs have them. I think he tries to force a lot of throws especially under pressure. The best prospect, but I don't think he's a clear cut best QB available.
I think he's got good footwork, he had a tough outing, but he made some great throws against a very good defense. I think the Jets will go with Petty next season as well and check on his progression, before pulling the trigger on a QB early in the draft. Offensive line, linebackers - this needs major work
Well we can take the Lions off of the "might trade a 1 for Mo" list. They benched Stafford in their 5th loss and will probably be evaluating QB's in the draft this year.
Sorry for the confusion, I don't know how that happened. I was responding to TouchyFeely's comments about Goff looking good so far in the game. I must have clicked on your post by mistake.
Yeah, Goff started out like 7/9 1td/1int with the INT literally bouncing out of his receivers hands into a defenders. His next drive he came out and his receiver dropped a ball in the end zone. Then Utah started playing really physical, boxed out a receiver on a quick slant. All in all, Goff's receivers cost them 14 points on drops. Utah's defense played extremely well and even caught on to what Cal was doing systematically. It's a special group.
Sorry guys, I don't pay attention to college sports nor I have been reading these posts (my bad). But to the more knowledgable TGGers on here, are there gonna be any decent QBs on the board if we draft, lets say 22nd this year?
He's a more accurate passer than Winston or Mariota coming out; he just had a rough game against a very good defense. He was very imoressive against a tough team in USC behind a poor Cal OL and for much of the year. He gets UCLA next Thursday, so that should be interesting. He's signficantly better than Petty, IMO.
A few excecuives mentioned this in a article, but he reminds me of Matt Ryan at BC. Doesn't have elite physical traits or tools and has an average arm, but for the most part is very accurate, elevates the team around and can throw with anticipation (rare for spread for quarterbacks). If I believe a QB is a good prospect who can be a starter for a decade, I'mm willing to take him first but I get that everyone has different standards. He was good against USC and Leonard Williams last season, considering the circumstances. But I am interested to see how he rebounds against UCLa on another big stage.
