Doesn't block well? Is that a joke? The offensive line is currently one of the best in the league. They are playing out of their minds currently. I disagree entirely. This team is built, in my opinion, the same exact way. Excellent weapons, a serviceable QB, great running game, and an amazing defense that stops the pass.
That was actually a Mangini move. He used it first in the playoff game against the Pats in 2006. 8 guys on the line of scrimmage with none of them with their hand on the ground all mingling around as Brady tried to make his pre-snap reads. It didn't work, the Pats creamed us and Mangini gave up on it.
Not quite the way Mangini did it. Rex had 6 guys on the line and 5 DB's. Mangini did it with his normal personnel. The only people not on the line of scrimmage were the CB's and Kerry Rhodes. I can't remember exactly how Brady defeated the formation but I'm guessing he was just reading Rhodes and going from there. It's the logical way to beat that kind of action, just send two guys up the seams on either side and throw away from Rhodes.
Realistically there are only about 4-5 teams on the schedule that we can consider competitive, the rest have as many or more question marks as we do.
We beat the Colts in Indy. Yeah, Luck was beat up and they were on a bad roll but we're part of the bad roll. They just won 2 games with 40 year old Matt Hasselbeck at QB. They've won 3 in a row. The only teams that beat them were the Bills and the Jets, both of whom have top 10 defenses.
Don't get fooled by Ivory's numbers, all the yards he gets are after contact. He's constantly getting hit in the backfield and either using his speed to break runs to the outside or running guys over on runs up the gut. A good O-Line allows their RB to go 4-5 yards untouched and we are lightyears away from that. He makes the O-Line look better than they are. Part of why Stacy and Powell don't do that well and always it seems get stuffed for almost no gain. They don't break 3 tackles each time they carry the ball. By no means are they playing terrible, but the O-Line back then was absolutely dominating. They made our backs look better than they were, not the other way around. Same with the passing game, they were blocking well, it's not that the QB got rid of the ball so fast and showed great pocket awareness, which is what Fitz is doing right now. I don't see similarities there.
A good o-line gets their RB a yard and a half or 2 yards before contact. If they consistently get him 4 or 5 yards he's going to average 6 easy and nobody but the great backs do that.
I'm going based off ratings and numbers. The Jets have allowed 2 sacks so far. They are on base to set a record beating Miamis record The offensive line has been impressive. Very impressive. I disagree entirely with you
The Cowboys O-Line last year was a good example, just look at how much running room DeMarco Murray had. That's great blocking. That's what we had back then with Thomas Jones rushing for 1500 yards, he was barely touched whenever he ran the ball. We are light years from that, our guys are constantly getting hit in the backfield. That's not great blocking, it's not even good blocking. It's ok, it's getting the job done so far, against some of the worst defenses in football it was enough. The left side is blocking well, RG is still a big issue. We really need to pump the brakes slow down with the hype, you only set yourself up for disappointment. Let's wait until after the Pats game at least before we talk about how great this team is or where we're headed.
That's cool, you don't have to agree with me. It's not like I'm giving you facts, we're both arguing about something that nobody has a clear answer to yet. The numbers look great, I know. Ivory is running well, Fitz has only been sacked twice, all that looks good on paper but there's much more to it. I don't think we've done enough yet on offense or defense to be considered great or for real or however you want to call it. Our season can go either way, at least that's how I look at it. The Pats are for real, the Packers are, the Falcons might be. The Dolphins sure as hell aren't. I don't know where we stand just yet.
lmao, "RG is still a big issue"..... you are obviously basing that on nothing but your own predisposition. the line has been good. they may not be great, but there are certainly no big issues.
Show me an o-line that regularly gets their RB's 4-5 yards untouched and I'll show you the superbowl champs. I don't think that's something that happens in the NFL.
What predisposition? Go watch the film, stop with this "Winters dominated/handled Suh" myth. He was being babied the entire game by Mangold and Breno if you bothered watching the tape. That's not a knock on Winters, he's not a good player, he can't block somebody like Suh 1 on 1, but it's a fact that Breno and Nick had to help him out the entire game to make sure Suh wouldn't become a factor and it worked. A capable guard however could have handled himself out there without constantly having to rely on Nick and Breno to help him out, those two could have blocked linebackers instead in those situations but they were tied to Winters. It's still an issue, yes.
If I remember correctly, Mangini first employed that in the regular season against the Pats in Foxborough and it worked. Brady was confused all day. Apparently they were ready for it in the playoff game.
