hard to be a burner when the QB has no deep arm. All good we know what Fitz is good at and not good at, but Devin had to pull up a few times to not overrun the ball. He was in position to make a couple of long catches if the ball had more distance.
Whether he beats them or not, it's not going to matter if Fitzpatrick keeps underthrowing 9 routes every game.
I was a little disappointed in Smith's aggressiveness. There was one play where he had the bell cradled in his arm, against his body, and it looked like it was knocked out by the defender's shoulder or helmet. I would have liked to see him snatch the ball away when he had that much control over it.
He played pretty well for his first game. I was impressed. If Fitz had a stronger arm this kids has a 1 TD maybe even 2.
Damn kid played one game after missing training camp and preseason games and already hate for him. I hate this fanbase
You could live outside the new york area and believe the garbage that other fans and media spew about the home team. I miss the new york media/ fans that have high expectations. Seriously in Houston people are good with the Astros/ Texans being terrible in order to build a monster team for the future one day. The win now mentality is something I sorely miss.
I was there and I noticed that every snap the CB was playing at least 8 yards off of Smith 80% of the time. I was saying to the guy next to me that Gailey needs to start calling some quick slants/curls to Smith and get those easy 5 yards before sending him deep 3 times like that.
What we've heard so far about Fitzpatrick is that it's very important to him to be on the same page as his receivers. I think part of the problem Fitz had with Devin Smith on Sunday was that they aren't quite on the same page yet. Before we panic about how he doesn't have the arm to get DS the ball, let's give them another week or two to develop a connection.
This is exactly it. They were all pretty tough catches and were under thrown. Most of the passes he had to turn around and make a tough grab with a man in his face. I also agree that he isn't quite on the same page with Fitz yet.
No receiver is going to consistently blow past DBs in the NFL. These guys are too fast. The vast majority of the time you see a successful long ball in the NFL it's usually due to miscommunication by the defense or the receiver makes a play on the ball on a tightly contested throwthrow or the receiver ran a good route and caught a DB flat footed and ended getting by them. You hardly ever see a receiver simply out running a DB to catch a pass
The CB had the inside on each of the grabs we are discussing. Thats a credit to the DB, let it go. Fitz should have put the ball up and away...Smith hasn't played, so Fitz han't had a chance to get that. 12 guage, used to heave it....and let Smith go get it.
Hi, I'm a rookie WR with a reputation for outrunning college secondaries. Therefore, I can slip behind unprepared NFL defenses in my first game. Sincerely, Fake Q. Person
So, if we had a strong armed QB, he could just throw the ball deep every time to a receiver who is smother covered and it will be a td every time!
