The missed one in the end zone was painful. He did a great job stepping up and he had so much forward momentum going into the throw and no one in front of him and it was just a complete quacker.
I bet he and and Petty/G.smith would have a game breaking rapport with each other. Devin might be the least benefitted WR from Fitzpatrick being our starter. Fitz's timing and quick release, particularly on throws between the hashes, has its obvious benefits but we're not exactly making it easy for him to do what he does best. huh, a thought races to my head: Baltimore really could have used Smith to perfection with Flacco's canon. LOL, two deep ball specialists named Smith on one O.
If only he could have had 100 yards and 2 TDs in his first career game. Then we would know he's destined for greatness...
He could've had those #s ... that's the worst part ... Devin Smith looks really good, but we need someone with a strong arm to get him the ball, otherwise his impact is limited. If Fitz is going to continue throwing ducks out there - they are going to get intercepted and he's going to see the bench very soon.
The coverage was good, he didn't burn by anyone but he had a step each time, the balls were underthrown, if anything he coulda done a better job fighting for the ball. But I don't blame the OP's reaction. A bunch of loudmouth know it alls on here in the off season were flaming anyone who disagreed with them about how Devin has "elite" speed even tho a 4.4 is commonplace in the NFL.
yeah, it was his first game so obviously he will improve but hopefully he realizes he needs to fight harder for the football. The throws to him were bad, no excusing that, and that can be frustrating, but I wished he showed more attacking the football. At Ohio State maybe he could just run straight and be wide open so he didn't learn this, who knows. he should model his game after DeSean Jackson, that guy is a tremendous deep threat in this league not because he just outruns people. He gets under thrown balls all the time but he attacks the football and fights like an SOB to pluck it out of the air in situations like that.
It was obviously the fact that fitz deep ball is a duck.. You could see him explode after the catch, but catching a deep ball from fitz is like catching a fly ball......both wr and defender stop, wait, jump. Just watch.
Devin had to slow down at the top of all the routes because every single ball was underthrown by fitz. if you look at the replays he had a step on the defender every time if the ball placement was better he would have gotten some of those deep shots. maybe its lack of chemistry but Im leaning more towards fitz just not being able to throw deep.... one of the few things geno is better at.
Wow the guy was hurt all camp and was thrown into the fire cause of the Decker injury with a clueless deep ball QB Not to mention he's already looked better than Stephen Hill give him a break
It's not a strong arm, it's ball placement. peyton manning threw ducks his whole career but it was always in good spots. fitz either under throws or overthrows everything deep. our offense with him, is not built to play from behind.
by raw i mean inexperienced.. he's a rookie who missed OTA's, training camp, the preseason, and the first 2 games. still has to absorb the playbook, terminology, speed of the game, talent of the DB's, and a much broader responsibility than he had in college. his college experience involved running deep routes. so maybe he can run more routes, but he hasn't shown it, and certainly not at this level yet. he also has to learn versatility in lining up in multiple positions, whether it be X,Y, or Z......something he also didn't have to do in college much. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/06/devin_smith_had_a_lot_to_learn_after_jets_drafted.html he's a promising player, but there is a huge learning curve as a WR to begin with. i was surprised how many people were considering him our #3 before he stepped on the field. personally i expected a slow start, while hopefully seeing an upwards arc of progression every week.
