I don't think Bowles will be calling a ton of blitzes. He won't have too. He'll keep is LBers home covering the flats and short passes and let his D-line do their thing against a fairly week Philly O-line. Sam Bradford is no Andrew Luck so getting a ton of pressure on him won't be quite as urgent. Bowles will call a handful of well timed corner blitzes but our LBers will stay put most of the game.

Bowles should continue to blitz Demario and see if he can have an impact there. His last game was very promising as a rusher, hopefully he does the same this week again.

College football analyst re: Cardale Jones' struggles this season. I'm so excited to see this kid play, hopefully it's tomorrow.

So many people have made this point about Devin Smith. Dilfer and Mayock said the same thing on draft day. Really excited to see this guy on the field.

crap, I almost forgot about Devin.

yeah he's playing tomorrow right? that should be fun to watch. If he's as good as touted he'll even make Fitz look good.

Whens the last time we drafted an impact WR high?

I'm excited about Devin Smith, but I don't expect to see a lot if anything from him in this game. He was drafted as a guy that caught the long ball very well and didn't do a whole hell of a lot else, and we have a QB that is shit past 20 yards.

Smith hasn't even been able to practice since camp, so I don't expect him to have more than 2 or 3 plays practiced with this offense.

i'd expect him to have done a little more than 2 or 3…

hell any play that tells him to run an outside route of any kind shouldn't be a problem to pick up.

    He didn't struggle.

He didn't plant and throw the ball on 3 or 4 deep passes. He flicked them downfield without stepping into them.
Hence they were short/and or late.

Smith's speed enabled him to heave it, and that says more about Smith, than Jones.

Jones was trying to lay the ball in 40 yards downfield, (a couple times successfully)...with all touch and no effort.

He's payed a total of 6 quarters this season.

    FCOL.

He completed over 60%, for almost 300 yards and a couple scores....

No, Hobbes, you are not allowed to turn this thread into a Cardale Jones thread.

Norris, has that almost completely wrong.
Not trying to, that was just a grotesque misinterpretation of what transpired today.

Usually if you go back and look at Smiths highlight reel, there are a few underthrown balls, and yes, Smith has the skills to adjust...But...that wasn't what made Jones look good.

His ability to chase down Jones arm, made them both look good.

As I said, that says more about Smith than Jones.

If Decker is out, do you think the Jets will line up Marshall on one side, Smith on the other and Kerley in the slot?

    Wouldn't you ?

If you go 11, Trips on one side, Marshall on the other.... You're forced to cover Kerley in Space (0,1,2), Cumberland down the seam (The only route he seems to catch, oh and BTW Philly is without their two ILB's), and Smith on the 7,8,9, deep... AND Double cover Marshall who is already Fitz's favorite target.

With a back that may or may not be needed to get 4 seconds...

And FWIW that combination of personnel doesn't exist on film at this point, which puts an NFL defense at a decided disadvantage, a fact that will not be lost on Bowles.

And it's very possible given Philly's offensive problems, they may be preparing for a more extensive ground attack, (though the O/U is average for this game)

He's been a full participant in practice for over 2 weeks so they've probably got a decent enough set of plays they can use him on.

I see every game. When a guy makes the same technique mistake four time, you would expect someone that 'writes' about it to pick up on it.

He made one mistake, four times. And When it shows up on film, like it did on the replays (the announcers even picked up on it fcol).that's an easy one to correct.

Jeremy Kerley has had a number of years to show he can run every route and catch most passes and the guy can't get past PR duty.

Smith played a half a camp while they tried him out at different spots, then he was injured and now he's playing catch-up, having been a 9 route threat most of his college career. I'm not convinced that 2 weeks is enough with this offensive staff to prove he warrants more than a couple of plays.

Then again, my Kerley example could be way off base and the CS could actually be lying their asses off about why JK isn't getting snaps.

I can't shake the same exact feeling. Luckily I'm wrong a lot so hopefully there's nothing to worry about and we come out and play like we should.
