This is logically incongruous. There is nothing about hating someone that implies you shouldn't talk about them. In fact, I'd say it's the opposite. "For a city that prides itself on food, Buffalo sure does get a lot of snow."
I think that's silly. I liked the situation they had because they had a guy in Taylor who could be the next big thing with his mobility and his arm, but if he flopped and starting turning the ball over they had a veteran insurance policy. Cassell was going to be slightly above average if they needed him. Now the safety net is gone and they have a playoff roster that's all in on a guy who's started 2 games in the NFL.
Cassel was #3 as he was beaten out by Manuel all throughout camp. Cassel was eventually cut because he wouldn't throw the ball more than 10 yards down the field. To get a 5th rounder and get rid of an excess $2 m for a 3rd stringer is great.
Funny, official Bills website says otherwise, sucks that your "2nd string" QB couldn't beat out a guy who couldn't throw more than 10 feet downfield. It was also a 5th for 7th round swap not just a straight 5th rounder, and in 2017 not next year. POS First Second Third Other WR Sammy Watkins Chris Hogan Marcus Easley LT Cordy Glenn LG Richie Incognito C Eric Wood Kraig Urbik Gabe Ikard RG John Miller RT Seantrel Henderson Cyrus Kouandjio TE Charles Clay MarQueis Gray Matthew Mulligan Chris Gragg QB Tyrod Taylor Matt Cassel EJ Manuel FB Jerome Felton RB LeSean McCoy Boobie Dixon Karlos Williams WR Percy Harvin Robert Woods Marquise Goodwin Marcus Thigpen Tyrod or E.J., the Jets D will have fun either one.
Reports came out after camp that Manuel was the #2 and would be next up if Taylor went down or got benched, but that the coaching staff felt more comfortable on game days having Cassel in there in case he needed to come in in a pinch because as a veteran, he could handle any game plan and be thrown in there at any time without issue.
They gave up a 5 to get him to begin with, all they did was wash their hands of the original transaction more or less.
So Manuel was actually the #2, was getting reps with the second team in practice, and they deactivated him for the first 2 games of the season because they trusted the 3rd guy more as a backup? That's some clusterfuck of a situation. Have fun with that.
Rex don't need no stinkin QB. That has been Rex's MO, he picks his QB in the preseaon and sticks with him... no matter what.
