He's underwhelming. More, Idzik paid him like he was a true #2. He gets overrated sometimes because he's electric when he has the ball. The problem is he often has trouble getting the ball.
I think there's more than what we know going on with Kerley, this is the second coaching staff that has him in the doghouse, and the previous coach was by all accounts buddy buddy with all of his players. Whether he dogs it in practice, or there's a personality issue, there's something going on with this guy. Everyone thought Marvin Harrison was a consummate professional and teammate until we discovered he was a kingpin in his home town and most likely a murderer to boot.
Ahhhh I'm not so sure the lack of love is on us. When Kerley got here he seemed like he was going to be that dynamic little slot receiver for us, our Wes Welker or Julian Edleman or the like. And it seemed for a few years he was getting there. But last year he seemed disinterested, dropped a ton of passes (it seemed), disappeared for games at a time and just didn't seem to be making great effort. More than a couple of times it seemed he completely gave up on balls. I still like the player but there is definitely something going on there that we don't know about. Yeah I don't think the fans can be blamed for their lack of love, his disinterest brought that on. _
I personally would love to see Kerley play with Decker and Marshall in this offense but like others have said, he's such an obviously good fit that there has to be some reason we don't know about for his burial by this coaching staff. Either way, Evans is gonna be the guy to go most likely. Kerley isn't getting cut for $$ reasons alone, but also because he's probably the 4th best WR on our squad. Enunwa absolutely has earned himself a spot, Owusu is worth taking a chance on and Powell is our return guy. Leaves Shaq as the odd man out.
Geno is only in trouble if the front office and Bowles just want to turn the page at this point. He's cheap backup material through 2016 that might catch fire if he was suddenly put back in. I wouldn't be shocked beyond words if they cut him but it's a long shot.
Kerley seemed like a real up and comer as recently as going into the 13 season. But even before then Ryan had an issue with his off season preparation. More recently I felt at the time the contract Idzik gave him last season was too much of a reward for too little, and then Kerley seemed to coast the rest of the season. Mac came in and said some nice things about him, but that was early in the off season. Maybe they thought Kerley wasn't used properly down the stretch last year, but imo his issues are not coming from the OC and offensive scheme. Probably the better receiver than his competition down the depth chart, but he seems to have issues with working to keep his slot. And let's face it - he's never been more than a decent slot receiver who doesn't really block or add much versatility to the offense. I can see him being traded. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.
This front office has no loyalty to a guy who was over drafted and injury prone. The only people in this universe who thought McDougle was anything more than a 7th rounder was Rex Ryan and you.
lol your obsession with hating Powell is one of the weirder trends currently going on this forum. did it bother u when he scored the punt TD against the Giants? might have made the team on that play.
What is your problem with Powell? The Jets need someone to return punts who can get some yardage and has the potential to score. Right now, Powell's it. Get over it. I'm sure if/when they can find someone better, they will.
I agree, the Jets need someone to return punts. But that player must be capable of CATCHING the punt before he can return it!!!! Powell absolutely sucks.
Seriously? How is it that you know more than Bowles? Is it possible that they've seen more in practice from Powell than you have? Who else is going to return punts? Kerley's a fair catch machine. Decker? You don't want to risk your #2 WR returning punts. If they had kept Arenas as a PR, which CB would you have cut to keep him? I'm sure they're looking for ultimate flexibility. Arenas was evidently a liability when playing as a DB, so he would have been on the team only to return punts. Powell at least can function as a WR and he has speed to keep Ds honest. The other issue is that the final roster isn't even close to being set. Someone could get cut or could have already been cut that the Jets have their eyes on. At this point, you're just giving yourself agita. Why not wait and see what happens?
