Gotta give MS credit for making a career as a journeyman in the NFL, most teams have to be content with a journeyman QB and it seems those guys are hard to come by as well. I can't believe how the MS talk just rekindles here every other month.
That's because some Jets fans are absolutely clueless. They wouldn't know a talented player if he walked up to them on the street and punched them. Not their fault, I guess. After all, Rex and Parcells couldn't seem to spot talent, either.
I prefer the old saying: I wouldn't piss down his throat if his heart was on fire! Now THAT is not liking someone.....
Marketing sticks with some buyers forever. It's called brand loyalty and the people susceptible to it will keep buying the product imprinted on them until the business goes under, even when it's clearly inferior/overpriced to other alternatives.
IMHO....there is almost ZERO percent chance he is cut. like it or not he is a legit back up with post season experience. In the unlikely cosmic event that he is cut there is a 99% chance he will be picked up by a team other than the Jets. Buffalo actually comes to mind. Meantime in Jet land we continue to watch Petty grow leaps and bounds and by next season become the perennial Jet starter we have all been dreaming of . Only then the memories of Jets QBs gone bye after Joe Willy will become a distant, largely forgotten and mostly uneventful period in Jets history.
Confused by the bold. Having a perrenial starter somehow should make us forget any and everything done by a Jets QB since Joe?
Well, imo, while it may not make us forget what has gone before, hopefully it will make it a thing of the distant past and not something we continue to dwell on in our misery. If Petty develops into a topflight QB and the Jets are a perennial playoff team for the next 10 years and we win a handful of AFC Championships and a Lombardi Trophy or two, hopefully it will stop some of those threads rehashing our sorry draft history and pathetic QB play and missed chances at SBs (1986, 1999, etc.) Hopefully, at that point, people would continue to talk about our exciting SB runs and how brilliant Mac was for trading up in the 4th round to get him and how all the other teams passed on him.
Good point. Well, there will be some fond memories of O'Brien, Testaverde and may be even Todd, but the constant regurgitation of Tebow, Sanchez, Vick, Geno and the carousel of QBs in between might become a distant afterthought. I'm hoping the biggest and longest thread in TGG history will be the discussion about " is Petty the best Jet QB ever" One can only dream
