Petty has a great arm, scans the field well. I hope he gets a chance to sit a learn for a year or two

Unfortunately I think we'll see even less of him vs the Giants. Game 3 is usually the 'dress rehearsal' so Fitzpatrick will likely play the first half at the very least, and they want to groom Flynn to be the backup so he's definitely going to get a little time as well. We may not even see Bryce at all until the fourth game.

If I recall there was another 3rd string quarterback who was behind Matt Flynn on a depth chart in recent years..

It's a good thing you aren't a HC and GM, because you wouldn't last over 1-2 seasons, and then possibly not ever get another job. You sound young. You need to study the game more and learn. You obviously haven't learned much of anything from Jets' history of the last 5-10 years.

And you'd be risking ruining Petty by playing him too soon. It's just NOT THE SMART THING TO DO. Sanchez and Geno had whatever chances they had of being capable NFL QBs ruined by throwing them to the wolves too soon. Saying Geno wouldn't have developed if he had been on the bench is absolute BS. You don't know that, and it flies in the face of history in the NFL. QBs aren't ruined by sitting on the bench and developing slowly, they're ruined by rushing them onto the field before they know what they're doing, and feeling comfortable and confident. It certainly didn't hurt Aaron Rodgers to sit for 3 years now, did it? In the past, most QBs sat for at least a year or two and it didn't hurt their development. It's only in today's NFL where everyone wants and expects instant gratification and they don't have the common sense or maturity to be patient, wait and let the kid develop before throwing him on the field. SMH at some of you guys.

I think whether you throw a rookie out there has more to do with
how good your offensive line is than anything. But plenty of
good QB's have started their rookie years, such as Russell Wilson,
who actually took over in training camp. How good is this line?
    Don't know yet.

No worries. Both of those QB's can play, so the season won't be
a disaster. I think Petty has way more upside. The problem with
Fitz is that he has a noodle arm and other teams will stop the
short passing by moving up, and that will help stuff the Jets
    run game too.

Williams had a nice play, everybody else starts to think, hey
we can make plays! Maybe I can make plays too! Things start to
roll....no worries. In any case, I'm not making any definitive
judgements about this team until at least Oct 4th.

Is it bad that I'm actually more excited for next season than this season? Rewatching this game it really looks like Petty might have a bright future here. Monster arm talent, scanned the field a couple times and showed a good ability to throw on the move. I liked his presence and pocket movement as well, which was surprising because that's an area where I thought he was very subpar at Baylor. He sensed the rush and moved around it more than I saw him do in college. After one throw one of the Falcons broadcasters goes "Man, doesn't this kid remind you of Ben Roethlisberger?"

That and he's a bright kid with leadership traits and a huge personality. He's got franchise QB traits, I really hope we don't ruin this one. Handcuff his ass to the bench and hide the key.

Geno is better, today, entering his 3rd year then if he'd be warming the pine, holding the clip board, throwing ints in practice, on and on. Bowles even said, "You don't get better on the bench". I'll trust him.

Come on, guy. You're smarter than this! Bowles also said that Petty needs to sit. Notice also that the Jets signed Flynn. If Bowles and Mac thought that Petty was anywhere near ready to play at an acceptable level, they wouldn't have signed Flynn.

You don't know that Geno is better for having played. That's just your guess.

He could have been just as good by working on his fundamentals, studying film, and learning to read Ds by studying at film and gettting lots of rep in TC and preseason. When you're preparing to to play the next opponent, you don't have time to isolate and focus on fundamentals. You're learning the plays and studying the opposing Ds and their tendencies. In addition, he wouldn't bave fans on his back and perhaps teammates not supporting him because of all the TOs and inconsistent play.

I think there's a slight chance Bryce could play. Flynn is still rehabbing and he said he should be ready to go in a week (he said this a couple days ago). Therefore, he has to be able to suit up, learn the playbook a decent amount, and be in for at least a couple practices for him to play. I'm not sure that will all happen by next saturday.

I think Matt Flynn will play heavily in the 4th preseason game however.

What makes anybody think Flynn will be healthy enough to play next week?

do you read what write ? seriously you dump geno and keep petty. I know your a geno fan but come on there is no way geno stays. The most important part is no interceptions. I forgot what a football game looked like with no interceptions.
geno goes thank god he had his shot and blew it

? really better today, if anything on draft day you could have traded him for more then what he worth now. The Knuckle head has help bring the franchise to all new lows and he is better today?

The majority of fans are just impatient and starving for a savior at any cost. The right thing to do is to have patience with Petty, while having the bearded wonder hold the fort until Geno gets healthy.
Once Geno gets healthy you evaluate how the season is going and if RF is playing well Geno rides the bench as his backup. Flynn gets cut and Petty continues to learn as the 3rd stringer.

No matter what, you draft another QB.
I subscribe to the Bill Walsh theory of drafting a QB every year .

Next season you open up the competition and let the cream rise to the top.

I think it will be a least one year before he is really ready. But he did show promise last night.

Why would you be happy that a player on Jets roster blew it? As you said. How old are you?
