Love this kid.....Just looks so natural scanning and moving in the pocket Definitely has all of the tools but could really use this season to fine tune his game and learn on the sidelines.....As long as he has the right attitude I don't see why he can't be a big part of our future Regarding the QBs I still believe that Geno is by far our best option this season.....Fitz should be adequate in holding the fort as long as he doesn't turn the ball over at all. It's pretty clear though that he probably won't offer much in terms of big plays or dynamic offense so the defense and specials are going to need to really lock it down. I know many Jets fans love to hate Geno but he had been improving alot from all accounts and actually has big play ability in his game.....He will probably make more mistakes than Fitz but overall I feel like he would be a net positive with a small chance for something big if he were to improve greatly in his decision making We should stick with Fitz only if the team is 3-1 or better and he's playing very well.....otherwise gotta roll the dice with Geno but I'm sure the picture will clear up when it's time
Petty definitely looked solid tonight. Still not close to being ready to start in the NFL, but you can see potential. That's what we hoped to see. Keep it up!
Yeah he looked good tonight. I hope he keeps getting better each week in preseason. He will be good trade bait when Geno comes back and leads this team and doesn't look back.
Petty looks like he's got promise, in particular with the deep ball - it definitely jumps out of his hand. Gailey called a decent number of play action for him, and, IIRC, those were out of the pistol/gun and effective. Definitely different calls for Petty as opposed to Fitz. Not sure if it was that the NYJ second string is better than the ATL second string (didn't they make the switch during the second quarter?), but our guys executed much better. In any event, I'd still like for Petty to get a series with the starters next game, and to see how effective we could be. (He still needs to sit for this year, tho.)
Whats the point of that? We're not making the Super Bowl with any of them. Petty is I think 2 years away from starting and we should respect that timetable. He needs to learn the offense and the speed of the game. Putting him out there could easily ruin him if he doesn't know what hes doing.
I honestly do not think Petty is a two year project. I think he'll be competing for the starting gig next year. I think he's got that type of a learning curve. He'll struggle a bit no doubt, but I think he has it in him to win the job next year. _
No doubt, the kid has a really nice arm, it was day and night compared to last week. Long ways to go, but as long as he sees the bench and continues to develop he should be able to compete for the starting gig next season. He should've had 2 TDs, that one throw early in the game he overthrew just a litttttle bit, but that was a really nice throw as well.
I like what I have seen from Petty so far. I do not think we should start him in week one but I could see him possibly taking the reigns later in this season.
A nice change is coming with this team. Feel it in the bones. Yes, Geno 007 is right... a trade will be made at QB and Smith is history.
Is Zig Ziglar that guy with the really big cock in Boogie Nights? I'd dream big too if I had a 14 inch schwanz. _
Yeah I still think he's sometimes just winging it. Once he truly gets comfortable he's going to hit that throw. _
Absolutely - looking at the spread QBs from the past, he seems a little different [in a good way]. Give him some time and it could pay off big time.
I like what I've seen from Petty, and the statements people are making about him having the arm talent to make all of the throws. You can't get carried away with how a rookie looks against the 2s in preseason games, but he played well last night. I was happy with his performance (considering the context, you don't want him starting games this season). I like that Fitz seems high on the kid, and letting him spend a year around Fitz to learn the offense and grow is a great opportunity, instead of just throwing him in there & letting him get killed until he figures it out (especially in this media market). They keep talking about Geno having a bad year, and then us taking a QB high in the 1st round next year. I'm not sure we need to do that. I'd like to be able to use that pick on filing some O-line holes or upgrading the LB spot for the future. Give Petty 1-2 seasons on the bench to learn, then let him have at it.
I think there is a natural conundrum when folks say "he's playing against the 2s and the 3s so don't read much into it." But he's also playing WITH 2s and 3s so you really are comparing apples to apples. Sure he'd have a tougher time facing an NFL starting defense but he'd also have our number 1 oline, Marshall and Decker and Ivory. Not saying he'd excell, but he can only play against the competition in front of him with the weapons he has. If he was BAD against second and third stringers, that would be cause for concern. I'd love to see him get a few series with the ones. Not to judge whether he should start this year-he clearly should not. But just to see a glimpse of what he potentially could do. _
