i doubt thats the case... didnt the patriots let him go cause a hamstring injury prevented him from participating in TC/preseason? id think this is for him to be on the roster until geno is back
Maybe, although APK's post addresses what is most likely to happen. But I would also add it is not clear Smith will be back after the bye week. Or what shape he will be in. My preference at this point given all the personal concerns about Smith, his lack of leadership qualities, the ongoing problems with him, and the likelihood he will be out of practice and probably out of shape, is that the Jets keep Flynn as the #2 and cut Smith.
Jets aren't cutting Smith this season. You can put that thought in a box and store it for next year. Although, it is your preference - there's a 2% chance that happens.
Flynn was cut by the Patriots due to injury. They wanted to keep him but with Brady not playing much in Preseason obviously, they need QB's on the field and picked up Lindley. This is a good signing for the Jets and no reason to think Flynn can't stay with the team all season if he performs well.
I say if they sign Flynn, then Geno needs to go on IR for the first eight weeks. Signing Flynn will guarantee his contract and we should limit wasting money/cap.
I love this signing for Bryce Petty's sake. Pretty much guarantees this Front Office is smarter than past ones and won't rush him onto the field. Yes, he will be on the roster, but don't expect Petty to ever suit up in 2015 unless injuries call for it. They will have Fitzpatrick start, Flynn back him up, Petty hold clipboard for the first 4 weeks. Then after that, who knows with Geno. Maybe Release Flynn and have Fitz start, Geno back him up, and if Fitz struggles, Geno gets a final shot to start. Maybe keep Geno inactive all year and keep Flynn. Hard to say.
We can dream. Smith is no leader and not a NFL caliber QB. The sooner he is off this team the better.
Thats what I said. He'll be gone when Geno gets healthy or even before that if Geno is not put on the short term IR and still has a couple weeks to go.
I think they should sit Geno all yr. Consider this a maturing yr. If he does not gt his head straight he is cut if he doesn't at least win the backup job
Since 2008 Fitzpatrick has played in 13,10,13,16,16,9,and 12 games. The odds are good he's going to get injured again, so the Jets HAVE to have a backup ready. And whether that backup is Petty or Flynn (I think it will be Petty), the backup has to have a backup. And Flynn could be replaced by somebody better later on if they find someone better. I don't think you can read too much into this signing other than that. Ron
I'm hiding under the covers at the prospect of Petty being released. He is by no means ready to go, but he certainly deserves a shot to see the field in green. Really hope they just brought in Flynn to be a meat shield until Smith gets back and to teach Petty where to put his hands on the clipboard.
