Is Eric Mangini part of the 49ers retirements on defense this off-season?

I'm kind of wondering whether the wave of retirements the 49ers have experienced is in any way related to Mangini taking over as DC there?

Patrick Willis and Chris Borland were injury concerns based on the players feedback, however both of them walked away from a lot of money in the process. Justin Smith was an elder vet and would have retired anyway in a few years but he also walked away from money.

It bears watching because Mangini's inability to relate well to his players is probably his worst characteristic. He's like Belichik minus the bonafides.

I doubt that he is so bad they would walk away from millions (or hundreds of thousands) just because their DC doesn't relate to them. That organization seems to be falling apart. I don't know if it has to do with York or some leftover bad feelings from Harbaugh, but I can't imagine Mangini is the cause.

Rough off season for the niners. I would think it has more to do with Harbaugh being pushed off

I thought about that too because Harbaugh has a rep as a grinder who really gets on his players about their performance. The retirements were all on defense and I figured maybe some of those guys just didn't want to deal with a DC with Mangini's rep.

Players don't speak well of Mangini when they speak of him. He has a bad rep around the league.

Tomsula and Mangini are big time downgrades from Harbaugh and Fangio.

    He ratted out the Patriots.

    That was pretty sweet.

    No, of course not.

But it was damn fine nonetheless.

Nah I think they're suffering from Harbaugh withdrawal.

Tough situation for that staff impossible shoes to fill and a big loss of talent. They (and the GM) won't be around for long.

    It's gonna get ugly there.

The 49ers seem to forget what life was like before Harbaugh.

    That's right.

I remember they were a laughingstock they came out of nowhere when Harbaugh got there and he turned them into a powerhouse overnight!

They're gonna get buried in that division.

Might be out of it by early October.

I always liked Mangini but it seems like he probably has an underhanded backstabbing way of being tough. Players can traditionally handle touch coaches but not those who talk bad behind their backs to other players and show favoritism. This seems to be Mangini's style and he doesn't have the success Belichick has to command the respect.

Interesting observation. I am no Mangina fan obviously... but this seems like a reach.
