You may be on to something Mute. I did get the download tool for the 64bit version of Win 10 Pro and had to do a clean install. Instead of putting it on my main machine, I used my laptop. I have no intentions of doing a clean install on my main boxes unless my back is against the wall. It would take quite some time to re-install every program/app I have presently. Besides, I'm not so sure how well my Norton and Malwarebytes will play with Win 10.

they sent this e-mail today. Rather late.

When will my free upgrade arrive?

You’ve already reserved, so your free upgrade is on the way. This is the largest software upgrade event ever and we’re managing it so everyone has a great experience.

Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or in a few weeks.

In the meantime, you can always check your upgrade status in the Get Windows 10 app. Find the app by clicking on the Windows icon on your task bar.

Got the same thing this morning.

I think what they mean by waiting is that to see if your drivers for your computer will be updated for windows 10. That way when you install you'll have no problems.

Got a chance to play around with W10 today. I really like the virtual desktops but Linux Gnome and KDE had this back in the early 2ks. It's about time MS finally added this feature. Still waiting for it on OS X. Other than that I don't see a big improvement from W7. I think for companies W7 is the new XP and will be in business use till 2020+.

The virtual desktops are cool but I never really used them. They're good if you have a shit load of programs on one screen but in that case I just use scale (expose on Mac OS) to see everything.

I uninstalled it - didn't need all of it. Happy with what I have and what I use computer for. Just didn't want to have to change and learn new stuff, I guess.

If you have a Nvidia or AMD GPU dont upgrade you might experience mouse lag and stuttering

go to C/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download and delete everything in this folder (but not the Download folder itself). Then try running Windows Update again.

Run this into Command Prompt : wuauclt.exe /updatenow

This should let the Windows 10 download start.

Its currently downloading the right size for windows 10;.

because again, when I went that route before I had to reinstall everything even when I told the installer to keep my shit.

What I suggested above is actually working now.

    EDIT: Never mind llololololol.

    FINALLY.... SUCCESS WITH THE UPGRADE!!!!

Yes friends, I've done it! Win10 is now operational on my machine and operating flawlessly. Took a clean install however AND I didn't use the Win10 home version. I suspect Microsoft is using millions of folks as beta testers in return for a "free" OS.

I purchased (yeah I know...) the Win10 Pro 64 bit. Only $139 at MicroCenter. Made all the difference in the world. Loaded my Norton Security without problems so my antivirus is now operational. All boxes on my network are visible. I'm reloading all the programs that I had on my other drives that need it.

It is indeed FASTER. I'm not sure if its because all my other apps haven't been loaded yet or if its just faster. The new browser isn't bad. Its not Chrome, but I don't think its meant to be. It will take some getting used to but so far, so good!
