It looks like Mathis wants more than we are willing to pay someone his age at this stage of the game.
No one wants to pay this guy. A lot of people think he's overrated. Would love to see him here though given the situation at G. For the right price tho
I want the Jets to pay this guy. Are we really gonna start Winters and Aboushi? How did that work out last year?

James Carpenter, from the Seahawks apparently will start at LG. I have no idea if this guy is good or not. If Winters sees the field, Jets offense is fucked. The big question is the RG position, but if we bring in Mathis - I think we will be OK at G for this yr, but whats his price?
Not much to say but this may be the thing that puts us over the edge... Proven that when Geno Smith has time, he is actually pretty accurate. Sent from my LGMS395 using Tapatalk
This is posted in the Jets are kicking the tires thread, my fault I should have used Evan Mathis name in the title
Was gonna post this. I guess that tells us how they feel about Winters, Aboushi, Colon & Co., or anybody else in that group that may have them concerned. Whoever it may be
It might be Mac being proactive to get the guy before someone else does as the camps progress and people start falling by the wayside.
I love that line from NFL fans, "for the right price". What difference does it make if a team pays a player $1MM or $10MM per year as long as they improve their roster and stay within the salary cap?
The question is whether Mathis understands that the reason he got cut by the Eagles is that he was making about twice what a good RG should make at 33. At a relatively cheap price he'd be a big help for us this year and might be the difference between 6-7 wins and 9-10. This assuming Carpenter plays decently at LG. One hole on the offensive line can cost you the playoffs. Two struggling players can cost you any chance of a decent season.
Do you seriously a RG can have. +/-3 game swing on a NFL team? Kickers and punters will have more of an impact than a LG.
Yes, the difference between having 5 solid offensive lineman and have 4 guys and a hole can be 3 games. That's not because the RG in question won you the 3 games. It's because the funnel he replaced didn't lose them for you. The 2007 NY Jets are probably an 8-8 team with a decent LG. They went 4-12 with Adrien Clarke at LG. Defenses attack the weakest link as a normal routine. When the weakest link is a hole it can become a crater by mid-season. Mark Sanchez got injured by the Broncos persistence in overloading the side Wayne Hunter was lined up on. Everything else became less stable as the Jets had to devote more and more resources to trying to keep the right side stable.
