Nonsense. He was driving 140 mph with a kid in the car, apparently an unsecured loaded handgun and apparently high on pot. He didn't hurt anybody because he was very lucky, not because he behaved like a responsible human being. This isn't his first time getting in trouble; he was just in trouble for pot a month ago, causing him to get suspended from his couple-hundred-thousand-dollar-a-week job. Society has no obligation to wait for him to kill someone with his recklessness before punishing him.

EDIT: This is a hundred times worse than Ray Rice in my opinion. In the Ray Rice situation, she was running at him with a raised fist, I don't blame him for defending himself (and prosecutor knew he could lose on an assertion of self-defense which is why the charges were dropped). In this instance, he's driving 80 mph over the speed limit while intoxicated. Plus it looks like he was stupid enough to be holding the handgun as the police approached the vehicle (which could have easily got any of the 4 people in the car, including himself, killed). You've got:

    DWI
    Reckless Driving
    Endangering a minor
    Drugs
    Gun
Leaving the scene of a crime
    Resisting arrest

Can't believe this,,,,,cannot believe this whole story just amazing ! The guy has talent but the guy is a knucklehead and a big problem ! He has zero trade value now and if he does not kill himself or wind up in Jail he will most likely be out of the NFL sooner or later,,,,too bad .
Time to see how the new staff addresses this,,,,,,

I don't see anyway the nfl can do him for a drug violation. The cop smelt marajuna in the car that doesn't mean Sheldon was smoking it (although we all know he was). He can claim somebody else in the car was smoking but not him. Nfl can't prove otherwise there is no failed test and no drug charges to fall back on. Nfl ain't getting him on the violation, everything else they have him by the balls but not on a drugs charge

Sheldon's trade value is low, but how about this:

Trade him outside the division for a 2016 2nd round draft pick. Tons of teams would jump at this for a ProBowl D-Lineman making squat money. IF he plays through the season with no issues, we then get the other teams 2017 3rd round pick. If he plays through his 2nd year, we then get their 2018 4th round pick.

2nd, 3rd, 4th each a year apart IF he behaves. The gift that keeps on giving.

The Jets have to be disgusted by the fact that Richardson never disclosed this incident to them and got blindsided by the news.
I mean the guy was just sitting in front of reporters saying you would never hear his name in the news again, I mean is he delusional or what!

Nothing will come of it. He'll get a fine from the court which is what it should be anyway.

Still doesn't excuse the fact that hes behaving like a moron. Can't do that shit anymore.

That would be horrendous, selling at five cents on the dollar. Just suspend him without pay for the season and tell the NFLPA to go fvck themselves. Give him a year to grow up and see what happens after that, he's still on a cheap contract.

Who's he going to claim was smoking it, the twelve year old? :p

The Cop didn't find any weed. He said he smelled something, that's all. Neither the Cops or the league have a case here. Sheldon was with 3 other people. Two adults and a 12 year old. Maybe they smoked something earlier, maybe they were at a club where people were smoking, maybe one of the other guys in the car had smoked something. Who knows. But this is not going to be an issue.

NO. You see some people don't ever grow up. its very possible Richardson will still be a POS at age 30. Its very possible he gets himself kicked out of the league before he reaches 28/30 on the pace he has set for himself. Maybe when he's 30 years old and out of the league because of his BS there will be some sob story from ESPN about how he's turned his life around and wants a second chance. We see that a lot, he can join the Jamarcus Russell's, the Charles Rogers', etc. of the world.

If he was gonna grow up he'd done it by now. He was an immature POS coming out of high school- that's why he had to go the junior college route even though he was the top DL recruit in the country. He was an immature POS at Missouri, that's why he acted like an idiot the whole time there and people forget that he was actually kicked off the team there his last season before entering the draft. and now this crap in the NFL. its who he is. not just a mistake from a young person, at some point it becomes the story of a loser.

to do this after you already vowed to change your ways?
to try to hide it from your team? seriously?

look at his ghetto ass comments yesterday even.. when he was still trying to hide this latest bullshit. It was all about himself.

He didn't like going from pro bowl to second string. "can't do nothing but be disappointed in yourself"
He promised not to be in the news again (even though he would be 2 hours later) He's not "a dope fiend, man," he just said didn't say no because it was a quiet time in the offseason. really? Then the best comment "my money is more important than weed"

WTF. really? how about your organization that is investing that money in you? how about society for shit's sake - getting stoned and driving a 143mph could've killed people. At one point he lost control of the vehicle and the ass end of his car slid to the other side of the road... and he talks about his money. Fuck him.

I've been a big proponent of not paying Wilkerson his money assuming a decision would have to be made, paying this guy. But fuck him now. If I was the Jets I'd give Wilkerson a contract tommorrow and suspend Richardson indefinitely. See Sheldon - this is what happens to a guy who follows basic laws and doesn't lie to his team. He gets paid. Enjoy your sabbatical

The league has repeatedly shown that they don't need a case to hand out discipline.

He's not a stock. They pay him to play and he's done that pretty well for us. We're not doing him any favors by paying him. That's his compensation. He doesn't play, he doesn't get paid. And that's the risk we took. So don't complain later on. It's amazing how quickly Jets fans quit on their players. We have a long history of doing that. He gets arrested once for speeding and suddenly his life is over and he's Scarface behind a Monster Truck wheel holding an AK in one hand and a bag of coke in the other, with an infant in the backseat, running people over and killing hundreds of children. Sorry, I don't share this viewpoint.

Again, he's an immature kid who got too much, too fast. He's not a bad person with evil intentions. That's what some people don't understand. Nobody is arguing that he's mature, makes smart decisions and all that. And stop comparing him to Russell or Rogers. Those two turds never showed up, they never cared about football. Sheldon is an all pro, he cares about football more than anyone else on the team if we're going by effort and passion. Which is why I think this will be the last time he messes up the way he did. He said he takes full accountability for his actions so as Bowles said, his actions will speak louder than words from this point on.

If the Jets are serious about keeping this jackass and getting him straightened out, they should ask Curtis Martin to have a talk with him. Maybe it will do some good. I doubt it, because he has that "I can do whatever I want, and I don't give a shit" attitude ... But its worth a shot. Maybe something will penetrate his thick skull.

At the very least ... Handcuff him to a chair and force him to watch Curtis' HOF speech.
