Were you seriously doing that? Or was it purely a joke? I bought a mo wilk jersey last year..started to wish i bought a sheldon jersey lol but not anymore
The question is "How much does talent play into a person's roster spot?" Sheldon is clearly a Top 5 player on the Jets. However, what he has done lately is beyond idiotic and embarrassing. I personally would release him in the morning. The problem is he will sign somewhere, serve his 4-16 game suspension, and then wreak havoc in the NFL for the next decade. So it really is a tough call for Jets management.
There are other options between doing nothing and releasing. I'd personally like to hear that he is suspended by Jets for one year. This should be announced in the morning, before the news cycle gets going.
i didn't actually place it but it was a late fathers day gift my mom was gonna put the order in tomorrow but i called her and told her i want wilkerson .. clutch timing.
Exactly. The child in the car is what really sets him apart from other criminals. Blazing up in the car with a loaded firearm at 150 mph? This wreaks of a 12 game suspension if not a year.
I'm all for redirecting that plain from Foxboro to Missouri and berating him with some witty tag line.
suspended one year, he enters rehab, and we'll talk in 2016 about a show me year. thats the best course of action. a release seems… hasty. not completely unjustified, but still, hasty.
Take a deep breath. You're being way too emotional right now. I think people in general should not make these kinds of comments with a few days to let this stuff sink in first. Sheldon is not a bad person. It's absurd to say that. He hasn't hurt anybody. He's very immature at this point, he has to grow up. "Guns drugs hyper speed with a kid". Stop it. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with a black young millionaire to carry a gun around with him these days, he knows he's a target. Just like many, many other young black players who have gotten into altercations, who have been shot at. I actually applaud him for that. I'm kind of shocked he was mature enough to get a license, that's what surprises me. He owns a gun, it's all perfectly legal. So stop painting a different picture. Drugs? Are you serious? It was pot for crying out loud, and the smell could have been in the car for days or weeks, he didn't smoke it and raced through the city like a maniac trying to kill people. The racing part however is very disturbing, but again, that's him being very immature. Typical for a young man who came from nothing and is now making millions, driving around in a Bentley now, gold chains, oh look at me, I made it, I want to have fun and spend money. Good, now grow up you toolbox. He'll look back at this at age 28 or so and then punch himself in the head for wasting all this money and causing all this trouble. Guys don't do this crap at age 30 when they're adjusted. They save up their money, they stay out of trouble, they have a family. Sheldon clearly still thinks he's a college kid who can get away with anything. If it doesn't click for him soon (right now), if he doesn't realize he has to stop putting himself in these situations, acting like a child, then it won't matter when he grows up, it'll be too late. There are plenty examples of that. We'll see what kind of parents Sheldon has, if his Dad can get through to him. If Sheldon has any respect left for his family he'll act accordingly now and become a man and save his career, maybe his life. If not so be it, it's his life.
Totally agree with each and every point here - but I would not cut him. I would look at the suspension that is appropriate and see if the new HC and GM can make an impact. We saw recently that multiple players said Rex was like a friend well this is the time for the new FO team to step up. Let us see if they can make him look inside, Ray Lewis is a major case where that appeared to happen and this is not as serious as that violation. It WILL cost him a ton of money as few teams will want to pay large guaranteed sums to guys who are one slip up from a 1 year or indefinite suspension. If he gets back on track let him play out his rookie contract with us and then let him test FA if not let the NFL suspend him like Josh Gordon but why totally cut ties try to put support mechanisms in place - he is a person after all and we should hope he kicks his addictions and poor choices. The only positive is that we still have time to sign Mo and show the rest of the team that players who show maturity contributing to the organisation both on AND off the field get treated properly.
Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. He could have died, been shot, killed someone etc. what if he wasn't caught this time and next time was worse? He fucked up badly but luckily nobody was hurt. That's the important part. Kinda upsetting how harshly some of you guys are reacting. Have some empathy. Yea, the 12 year old part is the worst and what most of you feel is unforgivable but idk what made Sheldon think that was ok. Kids are in gangs and killing each other at that age. Not excusing it, he's gonna get punished for it, but it shouldn't be a death sentence. AP beat the shit out of a young child with a switch for comparison, I really doubt yall would be calling for him to be cut and jailed right now if he was on this team. I don't think what Sheldon did is Ray Rice level unforgivable. I don't know if he's a bad person or not, I don't think so tho, I think he's probably just a cocky asshole who needs some humble pie shoved up his ass. This should be rock bottom. I hope he can get his shit together and turn it around from here b/c he probably will get only one more chance. What to do now depends on him. If he is ready to drop the gangsta bullshit, and wants to get help then the Jets should help him. I'm glad Bowles is the coach, from his background and demeanor I think he can handle this the best way, whatever that is.
What kind of law is this? How does 1k equal a full year in prison? Anyway, Sheldon at least so far is saying the right things. He'll have to gain everybodies trust again, and that'll take years. This comment however sounded just stupid. You get arrested, you embarrass your family, your coaches, your teammates, the team you play for, and here you are worrying about your public image as a football player. That's your priority? I'm pulling for the dunce but he has to step up now.
You don't have to be charged with anything for the NFL to suspend you. The NFL decides themselves whether or not you're guilty of committing a violation of their rules. While I don't think the NFL will give him penalty for the gun, I think the NFL could give him added suspension for marijuana use. The officer smelled marijuana on Sheldon which may be enough for the NFL to claim that Sheldon violated the drug policy once again only a couple weeks after his previous violation. On that basis alone, another drug violation could cost him a season. Let alone, the NFL may also add suspension for committing those violations in the presence of youth. Once again, sheldon isn't being charged with such a violation legally, but the NFL determines such grounds for their penalties.
