If I had to rank my "Players the Jets can least afford to lose", it would go: 1). Darrelle Revis 2). Nick Mangold 3). Brandon Marshall 4). Sheldon Richardson 5). Muhammad Wilkerson Big blow but not fatal. The top 3 would all kill us, the last 2 are inconveniences. *knock on wood*
4 games for smoking pot. I repeat myself, the NFL needs to catch up to the rest of society real quick.
I was definitely thinking that, but I chose Mangold over him because he makes all the calls for Geno at the line. I guess you can put Brick over Mo.
Maybe but it doesn't forgive the stupidity of a player who is aware that rule is there and goes ahead and breaks it anyway.
It is very hard to hide your personality. If a person, based on the limited interaction you have with them, seems like a selfish self-absorbed person ... then it's very highly likely they are a selfish self-absorbed person in all aspects of their lives. Richardson is ultra-talented, but everything he has said since he's joined the team has made him appear to be a selfish self-absorbed person; we simply dismiss it because he's ultra-talented and we want to give "our" guy the benefit of the doubt (ie, "He's just brash and outspoken"). Well? Today, we learned he's a selfish self-absorbed person and that it's more important to him to dick around with drugs than make sure he's on the field for 16 games. And I will reiterate what I have been saying for the whole off-season (every time it gets discussed) ... we should re-sign Mo and trade Richardson because (like Revis) Richardson has shown he's going to be a headache constantly. We knew he was going to be a headache about money; now, we know he's going to be a headache regarding drug use and potential suspensions.
I used to love Sheldon (see my avatar), but with him running his mouth and then getting suspended...the guy is close to me wanting us to go with Mo and Williams as our DEs for the future.
It boils down to how he responds to this. Does this serve as a wake up call and slap him back into reality? Or does he continue his dumb arrogant youthful ways and piss away this great opportunity he has?
Here's one: Coples has flashed much, much more at DE than he has at OLB. Not to say he hasn't been good as a linebacker (he's been decent) but he's really shown signs of being a quality defensive lineman to me. When he was moved back while Mo was out for injury last year, he excelled. I would strongly consider putting him into the line rotation for the 4 games that Sheldon misses. Maybe even a hybrid position where he plays both.
True--another indication of how poor our OT situation is. I think he would have to be #2. At least we have a back-up for Nick.
I agree he is stupid, the window in which they are tested is tiny so just stay clean. But the NFL coming down so hard on pot when booze companies are easily among their top sponsors is beyond hypocritical. I am curious to see how they handle it once the other 48 follow Colorado and Washington.
