On paper the Jets defense is a true power house. The squad is made up of TEN former 1st round picks. With a couple 2nd and a couple 3rd round picks sprinkled in. That's not even counting their stud NT Harrison or starting N-CB Skrine. When has any defense ever been able to boast having that many thoroughbreds on one side of the ball? I know the Ravens have had some great defenses and so have other teams in the last 30 years, but I believe this could be really special. If it wasn't for the consistent lack at QB, the Jets would be a playoff favorite and not a 50/1 shot at the Super bowl. Yet, as a Geno hater, I don't expect much from the passing game, but with a solid running attack and this defense we will be in the playoffs. If Fitz gets the starting QB job, I believe we could get to the Championship game. Just imagine if we actually had a starting caliber QB on this team, it would mean an end to the Patriots as the Division favorites. As a darksider, I am actually getting real excited to see what this defense and team can do.
Revis, Milliner, Pryor, Cromartie, Coples, Pace, Wilkerson, Richardson, Williams Who is the 10th ? (I hope its not obvious and I look like a moron)
Not as good as next years' defense. Once they draft another defensive lineman that will be 11 first rounders
I said we were making the playoffs in my prediction thread about a month ago and got shit all over. Odd how that didn't happen in this thread. I agree though. Everything rides on the QB play, but the defense should be a top 3 defense this year. Should be..
With the load of quality BDs we have, it should create a lot of coverage sacks. Not predicting a lot of interceptions, but this team should create havoc on QBs.
Pryor is going to be a big x-factor for this D. If his talent emerges this year it will shore up an already devastating unit. If he sucks again... well, I'm sure we'll feel frustrated despite overall good D.
I don't see it happening with Pryor. Since the day dumbass Idzik drafted him I have never thought he would be good. We'll see though. You are right- if he turns out to be good it could really cap this defense as elite. I wouldn't count on it though. Milliner will be interesting this year.
Honestly I think Cromartie was signed because the team anticipates Milliner not even being game ready until around midseason. I think the Jets are going to carry +1 CB this season, and that +1 will be Milliner. They're not going to bank on him, but they're going to give him the chance to earn his place when he's healthy.
If that's true why wouldn't they just PUP list him and free up that +1 roster spot until he's ready to return?
Maybe he's physically able to participate in a limited fashion? Perhaps it's a day to day thing. I don't know the status of his health. I'm just speculating that Cromartie is filling the role he would've, and it's because he's not as healthy as they want him to be.
