Exactly. We have a viable option at quarterback and at that point can even pray Petty or someone else develops within three years before they decide whether or not they want to cut bait with him.

11.4% of his contract is guaranteed at $12 million out of $114 million. That's absurd for a top 14 quarterback.

It's not Kaep's game in a vacuum. It's in comparison to what Jets have now.

Vs. our last years QBs - hell yeah!!! Bring him in!
If Geno or Petty turn out average +, then No.

To the people who want to trade Wilk and a 1st for Kap: I'm sure glad you're not running things.

A first round pick, Mo Wilkerson AND a middle round pick for a QB who is regressing? No thanks. If we gave up Wilkerson, WE should get the draft picks along with Kaepernick.

If we make this trade you do it now not when Mo is done with his contract. Mo's trade value is best right now and we need a qb. Kaep has been deep in the playoffs and controls the football for the most part. Huge upgrade to what we have. Having said that mo and a first is a lot the 49ers have to consider less. Mo and a second sounds much better IMO.

Kaepernick didn't regress last year. The 49ers offensive line fell apart over the course of the season. The last straw was Mike Iupati's broken foot (stress fracture), which happened at the most important time of the season with the Seahawks coming in for a home and home over a 3 week period. With Iupati out the 49ers running game fell apart and the entire offense collapsed at that point because it was built on (ta da!) the running game opening up things down field. Vernon Davis was hurting all year. Michael Crabtree was hurting all year. You can't run an offense around Kaepernick to Boldin forever and when the running game dropped out things went south.

The good news for Jets fans is that with a new head coach coming in Kaepernick might shake loose in the scramble. New coaches want their own guy at QB unless they inherit a Pro Bowl player.

Kaepernick has had a very productive career so far in a spread offense with a heavy run component. That's the kind of offense the Jets have been trying to run for half a decade now without success. He's exactly the kind of guy you want to suddenly become available so he can jumpstart his career and take off.

His QBR last year, with all the injuries up front and to his main targets, was 55.9. That was by far the low mark of his career and it was still 20 points better than what we're used too at QB.

If the Jets can get this guy they should just go do it and not look back. It would sell tickets and it would also win games on the field and that's the combination that spread offense with the power rush has been looking to generate.

Mo is a better DE than Kaep is a QB.

IDC if QB is the most important position. Niners overpaid for him so let them pay the price now. The league has figured this kid out and he's an injury waiting to happen if he doesnt change his style of play.

Its too bad too cause he has a killer arm.

You can't win without a QB and the Jets have at least three other guys at the same position that Mo plays and at least 1 of them is clearly in his class as a player.

The Jets have to get a QB somehow and Mo isn't a 15 sack guy they can't live without. Great player yes but the Jets have a glut at his position and the glut is younger than him and they have no QB.

Kaep is also very young and has accomplished a lot with plenty of room to figure out his game. I say go for it. Without a trade like this we will be stuck with a malcontent for one year who will be walking away for nothing. Or franchising an unhappy player. Not to mention we have a great rookie waiting in the wings who may outplay mo.

Some might call me crazy but I really don't think his ceiling is much higher than Geno's. To me his best days are already behind him. Yeah he played in a Super Bowl but that team was absolutely stacked. And he benefitted from it just like Alex Smith did.

We saw how mediocre he was last season with an average offense. Tells me he's the type of QB that needs great players around him to look great too.

Could he come here and lead us to the playoffs? Sure. But that's not the ultimate goal. There's probably a pretty good chance Geno or Fitz could lead us to the playoffs this year. Kaep is being paid like he's elite and he's far from it.

Really? Because I don't think there's anyway the 9ers would do that deal.

Br4d is right in that we over value Wilkerson especially considering his contract problem. No one wants to trade for a 3-4 defense end that is rumored to want way more than he's worth or way more than the position itself is worth if you're not putting up JJ Watt seasons.

With the overflow of older free agent veterans on this team it almost seems like we should gear up and push for this in 2 years at all costs. The guy is only 27 years old and has been to the Superbowl.

For as much as Jets fans complain about what positions we draft and the garbage we compile at quarterback it's amazing how little they are willing to budge to upgrade the position. Sorry boys, you can't get a franchise quarterback by trading away a backup and a 5th round pick.

I call Eli Manning. "The Giants failed to sign Manning to an extension before the start of the final year of his deal. Could he stay in East Rutherford, but change uniforms? It would be a convenient move for him and would give Gang Green the successful veteran presence at QB that they've desperately wanted."

Hey look, I should be a NYDN writer.

Whatever else you think of Kaepernick he's got a rocket for an arm and a career 60%+ completion percentage and a career 2.0% interception percentage. Those three things generally mean you have a very high upside player as he heads into mid-career.

The 49ers were an injury wrecked team last year. Kaepernick was in three straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl before the injury wave decimated the team in 2014.

You don't want Kaep's here because Harbaugh is not a whisperer and because he can make chicken salad!! WTF??? Do you even understand the concept of a cohesive thought?

But meanwhile Chip MUST start Tebow?

    What are you smoking? Seriously?
