MG sorry to inform U was a I player not a team player & his only thought on every play was sacking the QB which took him out of most plays
I do to. Honorable mention to Boozer/Snell & Sauer/Lammons as well. Quality ballplayers not the garbage we have had on the team for some 40 odd years now.
I am surprised no one has brought up Wesley Walker. If he could have stayed healthy more often he would have really put up some numbers. I guess with Maynard in the HOF, our other WRs Walker, Toon, Key, aren't getting carved in granite.
It was his job to get to the QB, for every play jet fans accuse him of taking himself out of, he also blew up a lot of plays where it was not a sack for him but a tackle that was made by one of his fellow linemen or LB.
The last center to be inducted in the HOF was Mike Webster. As good as he was, Mawae couldn't sniff Webster jock. To say that is a bigger snub than Klecko, says you really don't understand the game of football.
My memory is fuzzy, so I may be wrong, but I think he did play, at least some, but was basically only a decoy. He was not the same player due to the injury.
That's cool. As I said, I loved McNeil. I'm one of the rare Jets fans that think he was better than CuMar. I also loved Johnny Hector. Has there ever been a better backup RB in the history of the NFL? I was in grad school at SMU when Dickerson, Craig James, Michael Carter and Russell Carter were there and won the National Championship. That was awesome. Dickerson was amazing.
Mike Webster has one hell of a resume. Saying that Mawae does not belong in the hall because he is not Webster is like saying that Klecko does not belong in the hall because Joe Green was better than him. I think you are the one that does not understand what you are talking about.
George Sauer, Jr. was amazing. I remember being so shocked when he just walked away from the game. It was sad then when he tried to come back and played in one of those scrub leagues a few years later.
I thought about Walker. He is one of my favorite all-time Jets. I don't remember if he had injury problems or what, but don't remember his playing that long. If he could have played Miami every week, he would have rewritten the record books and be in the HOF for sure. Toon was another that if not for the concussions, would have been one of those in serious contention. Speaking of Toon, has anyone read or heard anything about him lately? I know that a lot of former NFLers have had lots of problems, died or committed suicide after all the concussions. I hope and pray that Al is ok.
