I stand by what I said. Rex is a complete snail oil salesman that has somehow convinced people that he is a defensive "genius" and a good HC. He is neither of those. He was actually a better HC in 2009 than he is now, and he is very clearly a bottom five HC in the NFL with the most fucking ridiculous team philosophy. He is absolutely terrible and insanely overrated as a DC. Firing him was a GREAT day for the Jets and at least 2 years too late.
I don't know...when you constantly have "worst qb in football" doesn't the responsibility for improving these QBs fall to the head coach? These QBs were very productive players in college. That's why they were drafted where they were. So, why is it that these players were productive somewhere else and NOT productive here? It's probably not all on the players themselves. And, yes, Rex Ryan was overrated as a defensive genius, at least last year he was. IF you look at scoring defense, his record seems to get worse each year. I liked Rex Ryan, but he epitomized "diminishing returns" when you look at his head coaching.
You said he was more conservative on offense every year. you can stay by that all you want, but the facts show it to be blatantly false, and nearly the opposite is true. I'm not sure how he was better in 2009 as a coach, his philosiphy and approach didnt change much if at all. all that changed was his talent went downhill in a major way and his QB situation never got better.
alot of players are good in college and suck in the pros. Sanchez/Tebow havent exactly looked any good since leaving the jets, tebow cant even find a starting gig. Geno was a second round pick who will likely suck again this year, or lose his job, and likely go the same way sanchez did. 99% of qbs in the NFL were good in college. but the NFL isnt college. half the first round NFL qbs bust or underachive. rex was a head coach, not a miracle worker. not een chip kelly, and offensive prodigy could make sanchez a good player
I can't understand being a Geno fan. He's gotten 29 starts in 2 seasons. So you have nothing to complain about. The Jets like with Sanchez handed him the job. If he doesn't make his move this season and isn't effective you have to cut the cord.
Exactly. There's also no significant financial ties to Geno, so the Jets have the luxury of getting rid of Geno if it doesn't work out. This isn't a Jay Cutler situation where the money demands it works or else.
There is only one NFL QB who posted a perfect QB rating in a game last season. Not Brady. Not Manning. Not Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson. Just one.

Geno Smith – Week 17 vs. the Dolphins.” In his hometown of Miami, FL, Smith set a single-game career-best in yards (358) against the Dolphins while becoming the first Jets QB since 1990 to lead his team to victory and finish with a perfect passer rating. Smith’s only blemish in that 37-24 win was a lost fumble that the Dolphins capitalized on with a touchdown. So while not perfect, Smith played winning football and he told me recently that was his favorite moment so far in his Jets career. On paper, this Jets WR group is more talented and deeper than any group they fielded in 2014. Brandon Marshall is an immediate factor and Devin Smith can take the top off any defense. Smith has more weapons at his disposal and this RB group also really intrigues if Stevan Ridley returns to full health. The signal caller, who is entering his third season, should also be better by experience alone especially with the complexities of reading defenses. Backed by a solid running game coupled with one of the NFL’s better defenses, Smith doesn’t have to be perfect. He has to be good and he has to protect the football. The Jets were the NFL’s 32nd ranked pass attack (184.1 ypg) last season and they had the league’s 28th ranked scoring offense (17.7 ppg). Those numbers will improve. @eallenjets do you believe Geno is ready to make a jump this season? — Ferb Nasty (@fernie9764) June 15, 2015 EA: We are about to find out. As QB coach Kevin Patullo cautioned recently, “It’s still a new offense for him, so I don’t know if the third year is necessarily the year.” So to me, the jump is literally into a new offensive system. Chan Gailey says his system isn’t that elaborate, describing it as fairly simple. He threw the whole offense at Smith while the Jets emptied out their blitz packages this spring. Gailey doesn’t pay too much attention to stats, but two things he won’t accept from quarterbacks – turnovers and sacks. The Jets are going to spread defenses out, using all the field and making the opposition monitor receivers and backs outside. And a thin middle plays into the Jets’ hands because Chris Ivory is one of the top power backs in football. Make no mistake – Gailey is going to run the football. Smith, who has all the physical tools, caught fire late in both 2013 and ’14. Now can he come out of the gate smoking in 2015? “I believe that we all have to take the next step, we all have to raise our level of play and me - as the quarterback - my game has got to be on point every single week,” he said.
I can't believe how much better the Pats, the Broncos, the Colts and the Seahawks would have been with Geno. Especially if those teams played games against teams all year that had already packed their bags, set their tee times and been dreaming about their trips to the Carribean. _
True, but why couldn't any other QB playing under similar circumstances pull off a perfect game? Geno wasn't the only QB playing against a team on their way out.
Because Geno is a superior player at the QB position than any other QB in the league. Well, except that one week when he threw up a zero point zero. It's a statistical anomaly. Means virtually nothing. _
And by that I don't mean giving him the whole season if he sucks. If he does start he's on a short leash.
