deGromm is looking better than Harvey right now and I think that is going to motivate Harvey to be even better. REALLY looking forward to seeing Syndegaard tonite. I can't imagine what this staff would look like with Matz and a healthy Zack Wheeler. _
Noah with the Cashner-like pitching line. He didnt really pitch poorly IMO. Just some bad breaks. The triple that Venable hit was a great pitch. Every pitcher is gonna get hit hard some nights. As long as control doesnt become an issue we'll be good.
Yeah 10 K's but gave up a shit load of earned runs... just a tough night. He certainly looks every bit as good as advertised though and I don't thin this changes that.
Alderson has to make a move at some point either near or after the all star break. We can't go all summer with a 6 man rotation especially when 2 of the 6 aren't what they used to be. I'm sorry, but both Niese and Gee are hurting this team and Sandy has to make a move. Its gonna be hard to justify keeping Matz down on the farm with Gee and Niese getting shelled.
Niese and Gee are horrendous. I can't wait until next year when we see Harvey DeGrom Matz Wheeler and Syndagaard. Hypothetical trade that I heard on the radio from Dave Rothenberg... Syndagaard, Plawecki, Niese for Puig. He said he would do it in a heartbeat. Me? Idkkk.. I would rather go after Jose Batista. Guys batting .220 but could be had for cheap maybe and maybe he just needs a change of scenery
Mayberry the first Mets player since 06 to homer and have 2 doubles in the same game..how in the fuckkk is that possible? I know we havent had many offensive studs over the last 10 years but that is a wild stat.
Niese needs two good starts in a row to improve his value which is at a low. Career wise he doesn't have bad stats. Plus he's a lefty. If he can bounce back I'd trade him for a medium value bat which is the best I think you could get for him. He's definitely expendable and has more value than Gee. This offense the way it's constructed now is incapable of winning.
When Jeremy Hellickson shuts ya down you know you have problems. Niese didnt suck so that was good. For whatever thats worth I guess. Something has to be done about this offense though. Murph going down in the middle of a hot streak just further kills us. I heard us linked to Ben Zobrist recently..along with the Nats and Yanks so that means we wont be getting him. He's nothing great at this point of his career but could be a nice versatile option to fill in at different positions.
EL Gordo is pitching today so hopefully, we'll manage more than two runs for him. He'll probably have to knock at least one of them in himself.
Even Gary Cohen who rarely criticizes the organization is talking trade but I'd be surprised if Sandy pulled one off. He did make good deals for those two relief pitchers before the season. btw Mets injuries esp hammies and quads-do they reflect on team conditioning. Ray Ramirez has been their head trainer for a while and it seems like there are always tons of these kinds of injuries on the Mets. If they can fire hitting coaches so often why not trainers when the key factors each season are injuries.
If Sandy does make a deal for a bat (which is highly doubtful) then he has to choose a trading partner as desperate as he is for offense: a team that needs a starting pitcher. Because of injury, ineffectiveness, etc. A team who could contend if they just have someone who could give them innings. As has been pointed out all teams in MLB know that the Mets have all of these injuries and aren't hitting. And the players they have brought up from the minors have been busts. So we're at a disadvantage in a deal. Unless we can get someone just as needy as the Mets are for offense in terms of pitching.
In addition to that, Wilpon Inc. won't ok any deal that will add significantly to the payroll. Unless we find a Giancarlo Stanton in our farm system, we're not gonna trade for any REAL bat. I don't think the Mets are ready to admit that its time to move on from DW. They have a ton of money owed to him and they're not gonna flush it no matter how little Wright plays in the upcoming seasons. A better GM may have seen this coming. Perhaps a GM with more cash to work with. I'm not an Alderson Fan at all.
It's very possible to make a deal for a medium quality bat without having to give up top prospects. But alas Sandy is waiting for a few guys who are good hitting prospects like Michael Conforto to develop which could take a few years. Which means this rebuild by Sandy could take up to a decade.
One of the biggest reasons why I am NOT a Alderson fan. Sadly, as long as he keeps payroll down, the Wilpons will stick with him and try to sell the fanbase on the team's pitching prowess as if that alone is enough to win.
The few times Sandy has spent money it hasn't worked out. The biggest contract was to Wright who never lived up to his contract: at least so far. Grandy is a streak hitter without the power he had with the Yankees: a true disappointment. Cuddyer is ok but he's not going to come close to what he did two years ago. Plus that was in Colorado. Frank Francisco was a bust. There isn't a long list of players he has paid. All of his trades were about getting rid of salaries. A few of them like the Dickey deal were good trades because of the players he got back in return. The Beltran trade: good return but they got rid of a good professional hitter who signed for 15 mil (not that much nowadays) with the Cardinals and had 2 good years with them. While the Mets struggled for offense.
One of the bigger non-moves of Sandy's this year was again going internal at shortstop. The Mets org is sick of Tejada who has underproduced and wasn't in shape and doesn't hustle. So they went with a player who wasn't a natural shortstop in Flores instead of making a trade and having to spend money. But Flores who the coaching staff likes has 9 HRs tops in the NL for shortstops. And after a shaky start defensively has improved in the field. The thing is offensively with Flores: his BA is .250 but his OBP, very important in Sabremetrics is an incredibly low .277. In other words the guy never walks and if he doesn't get a hit is offensively unproductive. A stat that has to improve. As for Tejada they are only playing him because of injuries and because they don't want to spend money. He's hitting over .300 and his OBP is in the high .300s a hundred points higher than Flores.
In terms of offensive production Flores has been good. But SS is still a need. If Wright is indeed going to be out for a long time , a longer time than he's already been out , then a 3B is still a need. And instead of running Tejada or Campbell out there they should just put Murph there when he gets back , move Flores to second and trade for a SS or bring up Matt Reynolds. To me the SS market looks a lot stronger trade wise than the 3B market does.
