avg wins 2009-2012 w/ Fitz: 5.5 avg wins 2013-2014 w/o Fitz: 7.5 avg wins 2006-2008 w.o Fitz: 7 avg wins all non Fitz years 2000-2008/2013-2014: 6.8 they did suck before and after but they sucked less w/o Fitz than they did w/ him.
it's not tired, this game is about WINNING not fantasy #s. does that mean it is AL on the QB? of course not but I watched a lot of Fitz in Buffalo and he was a main reason they were as bad as they were. He is not a guy that makes big plays in big spots, he is not a guy a team will win w/. A poor man's Jay Cutler type. w/ all that said I LOVE Fitz as a backup, he is a perfect backup. No pressure to lead, no pressure to win. he can come in for a game or 2 and play reasonably well but if relied upon to be a primary starter his team will not go anywhere.
Sorry I have to step in here. The year that Fitz became Fitz he was doing a hell of a job until his entire O line, defense, integral RB and himself became riddled by injury after starting what I believe to be was 7 - 1. So really no. Fitz was no more the problem than the solution all things considered.
But take this into consideration: you only care about fantasy numbers and he is the best QB evaluator on the world wide webz.
This doesn't validate anything at all. The Bills sucked before Fitz, during Fitz and after Fitz. 1 less or more win doesn't equate to anything here.
Buffalo was 5-2 to start 2011. The season began to unravel against us in Orchard Park. Starting O in week 3 in their win over NE: WR's: Jones, Johnson, Nelson OL: Bell, Levitre, Rinehart, Wood, Pears RBs: Jackson TE: Chandler Only difference in our game? Demetress Bell didn't play game was 3-0 at half. we made it 6-0 in 3rd after Buf went 3 and out and we got ball at Buf 40. we made it 13-0 after Buf fumbled to set us up at Buf 19. Game was 27-3 before "Fitz Magic" happened and they added a garbage time TD and 2 pt conversion Dallas game the next week when Fitzy led them to 7 pts? same lineup as Jet game. Did Demtress Bell make all the difference? The great Demetress didn't play the week before the Jet game wen Buf won 23-0 to extend their record to 5-2.
actually it's 1 1/2-2 more wins. The bottom line is Buf made a mistake giving him that big deal, he didn't earn it and they got worse w/ him despite more talent around him.
So, you and your buddies better grab some clipboards and get out to Florham Park to make sure "THE COMPETITION" is kept even.
Buffalo was still a bad team, this still doesn't validate your argument. At the end of the day, Fitz improved when he was the starter in BUF compared to the previous 2 teams. You already agreed on that, and to me - it makes no sense for you to continue this argument. +1 / - 1 wins ain't shit. You act as though, I am calling Fitz, "Lebron James" when he returned to CLE.
This sounds EXTREMELY familiar (minus the "more talent" part which you've somehow convinced yourself is true).
I don't think anyone will debate they made a mistake giving him that deal. But in context he was tearing up, got the extension and everything fell apart health wise immediately. That team was propelling toward the playoffs, hell they were screaming to a top seed in the AFC. If you want to say his deal held the team back sure. But that's not on Fitz that's on the GM and Owner, who were constantly flubbing. And by more talent what exactly are you referring to?
it fell apart b/c they started playing games that mattered and he couldn't handle it. They were healthy enough, missing one starter on O and couldn't put up points.
That is literally not true. They were missing 3/4 of their OLine, Fred Jackson, and Fitz himself was hurt. CJ Spiller was the only thing that kept them remotely afloat because he was able to take a screen pass 45 yards in a flash. He also broke out that year because they had no choice but to feed him.
it is a tired argument, as there are just far too many variables that go into a team winning or losing a game. talking about how that guy played, regardless of win or loss, is much more on point. and regardless of Fitz and Geno's uninspiring past, this is about the present team. what i'd expect the coaches to be looking for (amongst other things): who is protecting the football, who is moving the chains on 3rd downs, who is grasping the offense and the reads, who is performing better in the red zone, who is leading the team... If that's Fitz, then he should start. If that's Geno, then that's a great sign. it needs to be about competition.....that's really the point of this thread. neither one is a slam dunk option. i was glad to hear Bowles clarify his stance on the situation, but am still a little concerned they have a predisposition on the matter. It needs to play out throughout the preseason.
Bottom line is no team survives losing most of it's O Line to injury....IDC what team it is and IDC if it's Jonny U throwing the rock.
The terrible D kept them in the game against us. What hurt Buf more was putting up 11 pts(8 in garbage time), 7, 6 in the 3 games after going to 5-2. The 28-24 loss to us was on the D, basically the only loss in the last 8 losses they could pin on the D. after 5-2 they went 1-8 the last 9 games. In the 9 losses the O averaged 14 PPG which included garbage time pts vs. NYJ and Mia and a garbage time game in week 17 against NE.
Eric Allen @eallenjets 2h2 hours ago Bowles is a creative blitzer & he said today Geno has seen the whole blitz package in about a week & a half. It is May 27th. Jeeze. I guess we know why the defense has "won" almost every day of OTA's so far
