Per Chan Gailey - Barring injury, Geno is Week 1 starter

Did the CS make the right decision regarding Geno

  1. Yes - Geno was the only viable option at Qb so why not name his the starter and be done.

  2. No- There should have been competition for the job. Geno should have had to earn it.

  3. This is May. It doesn't matter what the CS says.

they were very talented and a team many "experts" thought could be a playoff team in those years.

when Geno Smith is giving away free points, it shouldn't be used as an excuse for him

It's May 20th, nothing said today matters. Everyone needs to relax, I guarantee they will come out of camp starting the QB with the best chance to win.

Are you for real??? No competition in camp is how I understand this news. So IT IS news.

Nothing going on here - you must mean the chances of a real improvement in the Jets O.

New coaches same as the old coaches. This Fing sucks. Guess I can find something else to do that follow this still for shit franchise this fall if this holds up.

Geno has sucked, I am not claiming he is good but we know you can't win w/ Fitz. It's still TBD w/ Geno.

weak would be making excuses for Fitz.

Just read the article in the NYPost. Says Todd Bowles was really impressed with what Smith "has got there" and they told Fitz when they hired him he wouldnt be considered as starter. They feel GSmith will really really soar with all new weapons etc.

I think I liked Phase I of our rebuild (Mac hiring/drafting talent) than Phase II The Todd Bowles Show

exactly... you cant just take ppg allowed. you have to factor in how many points the offense gave up, how many times the offense turned it over where the opponent started in FG range or in the redzone, and how little TOP the offense had, causing the defense to fatigue

I would love to hear a plausible answer.

    Then why say anything?

I wish I could agree with you but with the recent track record around here ...

The only thing that gives me hope is it's a entirely new regime so they're not 'married' to Geno.

Fire Chan Gailey. Fact is his hire did not make me feel good when it happened. Siting on the couch for two years. I think his brain's gone soft.

    Fire Chan Gailey.

They probably want to avoid a media controversy so Geno and other QBs can focus on what matter, picking up playbook. This regime has no ties to anyone on roster which is the benefit of a clean house.

If Geno doesn't perform, he won't start.

    I vote for the latter.

Jesus christ, talk about overreaction. I personally like Fitz better, but lets get real... his track record doesn't exactly scream "starter" and he's coming off a broken friggen leg. Odds are, Geno was going to beat him out. I think in Gailey's mind, if Geno blows it, Fitz can step in without starter's reps because he knows the system.

SOJF's already out in full force. Well, they were out the second they started bashing the Leonard Williams pick, but I think even they realized how dumb that was to do.

I think Chan just realized what a lot of posters on the site did; Geno has the physical tools to thrive in a spread offense. He probably liked what he saw on tape and apparently Bowles liked the personality side, so they're gonna go in and see if Gailey can accentuate Geno's strengths. If not then you've got a safe, experienced backup who knows the system and can probably come in at week 3 or 4 and play serviceably without extensive practice reps.

IMO this is low risk high reward. The reward: Gailey and Geno click and the offense takes off. The risk, Geno gets pulled after a couple games and Fitz comes in to manage the ship (and probably a morale boost too).

Would've liked to see a competition but this works for me. I won't complain.
